Sure, on the surface, gambling can be said that it is "wrong" or taxes the poor worse, etc.
But come on folks, you're missing the real reason Alabama doesn't have a lottery or casinos (at least real ones):
The politicians are greased up by neighboring states to keep Alabama gambling dollars pouring into Biloxi, Philadelphia, and Georgia, Florida and Tennessee lottery pools.

No.
Alabama tried to establish a lottery around 1999. It was soundly defeated in a statewide referendum and the governor at that time is currently in federal prison for taking bribes to pay off loans he personally guaranteed to finance the pro-lottery campaign.
In the last state election cycle, casinos were a hot issue and there was a massive change in the legislature - with candidates generally thought to be opposed to gambling winning in huge numbers.
Alabama doesn't have gambling because the majority simply doesn't seem to want it.

Hell, even Mississippi has a lot of casinos and that's worked out well so far for them.

I'm on my phone and haven't read the whole thread so this may have been addressed already....
Alabama has had legal gambling in Green County for all of my life in the form of dog racing and bingo. It is one of the most economically depressed counties in the state. You would think some of the revenue generated by GreenTrack would have been invested in infrastructure or industry recruitment.
I just think it's an interesting point but I'm all for the lottery.

Same.

I see no reason for gambling to be illegal.
I can see reasons for it being illegal, but at this point we're only hurting our future high school graduates by not providing lottery scholarships. I think the majority of people in Alabama feel the same way.

Are you for all illegal drugs as well?
I assume this question should read "Are you for legalizing narcotics?" If not, then my answer is meaningless.
If so, then my answer is no. I'm all for the legalization of marijuana, but all illegal narcotics? No, I'm not for that.
edit: I know the question wasn't posed to me, but I'm a conservative Christian too so I thought I'd give my answer.

This thread has kind of divided between gambling - casino's and shite, and gambling - Powerball and scratch-off tickets. 2 totally different aspects and issues IMO.

But why would you want narcotics to be illegal? The addictive nature? The ability to lead to financial ruin? Gamblers Anonymous has more members than Narcotics Anonymous, non court ordered, that is.
