Buying a 95 Nissan Pickup tomorrow - Advice?

I've read up on it and this seems to be an extremely reliable truck. I need one cuz I live in the boondocks. I plan one upgrading the radio and maybe the headlights/bulbs to halogen or LED so I can see at night. It's single owner and just over 100k. Also, extended cab and a decent bed with bars. I'll eventually have it painted (paint is good but I despise the weird extra shite Nissan put on there and would prefer a solid color).
Any other advice? I've never owned a truck so it's a new world for me. I've read great reviews but real ppl advice matters.

Yikes.
I hear ya there but 1. I need a pickup even a beater will do 2. I've done enough research on this model to know it's considered top 50 all time. 3. 100k miles is nothing for a Nissan 4. single owner is good. 5. again I don't need it to be aweome - just looking for a cheap pickup since I live in the middle of nowhere on a mountain where the plows refuse to go and am tired of getting snowed in.
I'm more looking for ways to upgrade it. Every place I've visited says it's reliable as frick.

As long as you know you are buying a 22 year old truck, I think you are fine. Hard to tell what issues it might have. That's not a ton of miles if it's been taken care of. Probably needs belts and hoses if those haven't been changed in a while.
I would probably do an entire fluid exchange (oil, transmission, brake, etc) if it were me. Good luck with it.

I'm a retired Chevy dealer and my wife and I BOTH drive Nissans...if that tells you anything. I'm not pleased with the headlight arrangement on my vehicle either, and would like additional lighting...but I'm too lazy to pursue it. If you already haven't, take it to a reputable shop and let them review the service receipts (history) for it, and completely check it out (especially the hoses, belts and gaskets).
They make a good product and I like the fast acceleration of their engine design, and common sense application of driver/passenger conveniences.
PS-pay attention to the owners' manual and compare the prescribed maintenance schedule to the owner's service receipts to see if they "took care" of the vehicle.....good luck with it!

Hey, I'm definitely not one to judge. When I was a senior at TAMU I bought a 1992 Toyota Tercel for $300 off Craigslist
Threw a radiator in the thing and it lasted a good 3-4 more years

Damn. That does make me feel better. I mean I know it's old as frick but a little over 100k miles and a single owner, no wrecks, is hard to pass up. Body is in perfect condition w/extended cab (for whatever that means in a truck that old). BUT I hate that it's ugly, imo, mainly because the factory decals. I know it's just a temp truck I basically need to haul trash and other stuff but gotdamn. I'd like to not look so rednecky doing it. I know that's vanity but I remember when new trucks were cheap. Now they're expensive as frick. Popularity I guess but I'll be damned if I'm paying those prices.
I started looking at an 07 Nissan Murano but it even though it got rave initial reviews it's kinda got me skittish. I love Nissans but that one looks to be a 50-50 shot at getting a lemon.
Otherwise you can run them into the ground and they magically keep going.

Is it a 2.4 4cyl or 3.0V6? Auto or 5spd? Both of mine were 2.4L 5spd & I got 225k before getting hit & sold 2nd at about 290k. The timing chain was getting stretched on the second one by 290k.
XE-V6 automatic in super good condition.

PS-As far as looks and prestige are concerned...thank God for tho folks who prioritize those qualities. Without them, I'd probably still be working!

The only question I can add is about the truck's past use. Has it been in continuous use or has it been stored? 100K miles on a 22-year-old vehicle is less than 5K per year.
While that can be legit if the truck was used as a second vehicle, it makes me wonder if it might have sat unused for long periods. If that's the case I'd want to know where it sat (inside or outside) and whether it was prepared for storage. There could be dry rot in places that might start showing up when you begin using it.
Also, I'd want records verifying the odometer's reading of 100K miles. People have been known to roll them back.

Yeah it shocked me how much trucks have gone up even since I was a kid. I can remember trucks being a much cheaper option. You could get all the options for 10-14k. (Yeah that made me feel old). Now I see pickups costing 40-50k - regular American made trucks!
I may still look at the Murano tomorrow. The body's good but it's got 160k on it.

Back then, our walk-around presentation on a pickup included the fact that a heater, 2-speed windshield wipers and backup lights were now standard on our truck...seriously!

Too many rhinestone cowboys these days. I mean give me a decent stereo system (meaning up to date) and a decent looking/driving pickup and I'm fine. It's a truck for crying out loud. It's for hauling shite. If I want leather seats and my arse to be heated I'll buy a luxury car.
I just don't get some of this crazy stuff on a truck and I'm typically a fan of gadgets and bells and whistles. But some of this just makes no sense on a truck.

2-speed windshield wipers
That's all you really need I think. My car has like 9 speeds and you can adjust the interval on the slow speeds. The high speed option feels like the wipers are gonna either fly off the car or the force is going to tip the car over.

It really depends on what you're expecting to get out of it. Hauling stuff around it would be perfectly fine. it would not be my preferred vehicle to do a lot of towing though. I had a 92 for several years, and if I had taken better care of it it would probably still be in my driveway today.

How much are you paying? If you are seeking advice on the Internet for this seemingly no brainier purchase, I wonder if you might be paying too much.
