How about not using the coffee carrying hand to salute uniformed soldiers. At least act like you respect our military personnel.

seriously, why is this offensive? the president is not a military position. he's not required to salute. for him it's no more natural than it would be for me.

It's a military position, he's the commander of all the services. The JCS report to their respective service secretaries but the President is their commander. It's a military position held by a civilian.
