honestly i'd get a microsoft surface with the keyboard. I really enjoy mine and it's perfect for having to type with plus comes with microsoft office. mines almost completely replaced my laptop.

The ASUS VivoTab TF810C is my favorite W8 tablet w/ digitizer support right now. The trackpad on the dock is kinda iffy tho, but otherwise is is solid. If you just want something for notes and surfing, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is also a great machine as well and you can sometime find them for under $400

My old arse professor won't let us have "gadgets" out. Notepad and a pencil for me.

Windows 8 is terrible from everything I've read. It has actually deterred me from waiting for the new windows tablet.

windows 8 is shite for desktops but great for tablets. It's designed more for touch screens, I wouldn't want it on my actual cpu but for my tablet it's perfect.
