I currently live in Roswell and we love it. I got a job offer in Birmingham that would be a big step in my career but also want to keep the family in mind. Removing the job out of it anyone that has lived in bot these areas have any opinions?

I'd go with Birmingham to be honest. It sounds like you'd be making more money and real estate is far more affordable in that neck of the woods. Most cities are decent enough to live in if you can find an affordable suburb... which pretty well rules out New York and LA mind you.

2 hours apart. You can live similarly in both. Make the most cash and enjoy your family. Both are great.

You couldn’t pay me enough to live in Atlanta. It’s just about as bad as you could imagine based on the number of people there. It’s just miserable and expensive.
Birmingham has most of what you want and some natural beauty to the area. Easy choice

Birmingham by far.
The Atlanta traffic alone has kept me from visiting my sister in law in over 5 years.

Granted, I went to Alabama, but Birmingham. Especially because you have children. Great suburbs that are a world away and yet generally only a 5 minute drive from downtown.

Is this even a question? I assume you're asking the OT just to confirm you were right to want to leave.

Whereabouts in birmingham?
I've lived in GA most of my life including ITP for the last 7 but currently live in the bham suburbs strictly bc of family stuff.
When we lived in atlanta we really liked the idea of roswell and would have happily lived there but it was too far from in-town where we worked which would make things difficult. I think that the cost of living here combined wiht everything else made it a good move for us. Schools and demographics are a sliding scale depending on where you are which can be said for literally anywhere obviously, but there's lots of great areas here especially for families.

Birmingham is much better, especially if you can afford Mountain Brook or Homewood. Birmingham is not a parking lot and you can have a quality life there. A lot of money is flowing into downtown. It's not the same city that it was 5-10 years ago.

In what ways?

I fly to Bham once a month. The city is nice, but not back to pre-Covid status. There are some really nice subdivisions and money in BHam but there is also bad bad parts of town.
Wall things considered I would go there over Atlanta.

Vestavia, Homewood, Hoover, Leeds, Greystone, Sterrett,
Stay out of Bessemer, Center Point,

Depending how much you want to spend, I’d suggest Shelby County suburbs down 65 vs 280.
Homewood, vestavia, Hoover, are in Jefferson, but pelham, Indian sprints, helena, and alabaster would be where I’d look. Oak Mountain high school (Indian Springs), Helena, and Thompson (alabaster) are all top 25 high schools in the state

am from Atlanta, moved to Bham in December of 2002
I have NEVER regretted it; Bham is like Atlanta was when I was a kid growing up; a major city that has everything, but not so big tat you cannot plug in
make the move if you can...

there are SMALL pockets downtown where people are still acting like Covid s worth taking seriously, but they are REALLY SMALL pockets
I do in home sales for home improvements & have run appointments in every area of town; no one has asked me to mask up in almost a year; not even in inner city or the ultra liberal areas
seems like we are absolutely back to pre-Covid status...

I’m not talking about masks you goon. I’m talking about the fact that half the shite in the city is either closed permanently or understaffed.

I can’t imagine driving in Atlanta traffic every day. I have to drive through B-ham otw to Arkansas for duck hunting and on its busiest day it isn’t anywhere near as bad as ATL.

I grew up in Alabaster, Bham suburb, and have lived in Atlanta 8 years.
If traffic on your commute isn't already a deal breaker, I'd stay. There's more to do in Atlanta and it's not like Birmingham doesn't have traffic or crime.
There's always big concerts, pro sports games and festivals to check out here. Birmingham has stuff going on too, just not on the same scale.
