What about in theoretical physics?

Changes every day. Once, nothing could escape a black hole. Just because it's not understood scientifically, doesn't mean it can't be.

A theory is a hypothesis upon which evidence is built to confirm it or to negate it.

Yes, science changes our knowledge base every day. Unlike religion, science takes evidence and works towards an answer; religion takes an answer and depends upon belief to sustain it.
There's no evidence of hell to be understood. It would be a waste of scientific time to pursue an explanation of something that simply doesn't exist.

Sometimes it just makes stuff up and tries to prove it. At times, it's correct. Other times, it's dead wrong. It's not to discredit science, as knowledge is gained from it. But to definitively say something doesn't exist, because it can't be proven by science doesn't mean it can't be.

"...makes stuff up..." sounds unnecessarily derogatory. You may be confusing pseudo-science with empirical science. All good science is based upon a sound hypothesis that is subjected to peer review. Peer review can be vicious and it's extremely rare for an unsound theory to get very far in the research arena.
Even the most detailed of scientific reviews of religious "theories" fail to show any empirical evidence that would justify a continued exploration. So, yes, it can show that hell does not exist.

If I yell Jesus Christ when I stub my toe does that make me agnostic?

I don't understand. I've not said anything derogatory about theists.

Tbird has a warped sense of humor sometimes. It's part of his charm.

Hardly. I think you're one of the most intelligent posters on the SECr. We certainly have our differences, but it's easy to like you.
