Put his arse on an air mattress in the kitchen and her arse on an air mattress in the bathroom, or make a pallet for her in the tub and forget about it - you will have done all you're required to do.

I think it's weird to take someone's main bed. I would never do it. I also would never give up my bed to anyone other than my parents or very old people.

In my home we maintain a very comfortable guest bedroom so I've never had to face that situation. Thank goodness.
