An Alabama commission tasked with studying medical cannabis has voted to recommend legalization. On Friday, the commission voted 12-6 in favor of legislation that would legalize and regulate medical cannabis in Alabama. Now, Republican Sen. Tim Melson, who chaired the commission, says the next move is to bring a draft of the bill reviewed by the group to the floor during the next legislative session. Melson will sponsor and introduce that bill at the start of the February 2020 session.

There's an LSU fan on the poli board (Bamacoaster, Baldwin County resident, I think) who was part of an earlier commission. He had some I interesting takes.

Isn’t it still criminalized there too?

I honestly never thought I’d see the day this was even discussed in Alabama.

I remain highly skeptical anything this Alabama government passes in regards to this will come close to legal weed. It'll be very highly regulated to the point that it won't be worth the effort for the majority of folks.

I’m with you. Give us some tax revenue and release the simple stoner. Good in my book.

My tinfoil hat theory is they're just lining up their mules and business interests before they pass it so they can profit off of it.

Wait, does Georgia not have legal medical marijuana?
Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri do, for frick's sake.
ETA: Having medical is about the same as having it legal, at least for non-parasitical adults who have their shite together. There are clinics here now that specialize in getting you qualified. It sounds harder than it is. I know people here who have cards in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. Oklahoma's requirements are extremely lax. Gummies and smoke are easily had by pretty much anybody who wants it.
The propensity for people in NWA to vacay in Colorado opened availability up considerably a few years back.
