"Convince me otherwise"
I agree with your other post but respectfully disagree that LA is ahead of Alabama in business. While LA gets high marks for strong energy sector, AL seems to have a more diverse economy. Despite being a bit smaller than NOLA, Bham has historically had a much larger corporate presence with as many as 7 Fortune 500 headquarters recently. AL has the larger automotive, aerospace, steel manufacturing, banking, insurance, and biotech industry of the 2 states although I'm envious of LA's mammoth tourism, energy, and seafood industries. LA's energy sector alone makes up for its lack of economic diversity because it pumps so much money into the state. AL's economic diversity ranging from NASA and the high tech economy of Huntsville, banking and medical research in Bham along with being the nation's 4th biggest producer of cars gives AL the edge over LA when it comes to each state's economy.

My fellow corndogs might hate me but I'd rather live on the AL coast than anywhere in LA.

I've never been to the beach in AL, but I was in the Navy and have seen beaches.
It's personal preference, but living on a beach limits your horizons. They probably have better deer hunting because of all these fricking nocturnal deer here and all the hurricanes and floods but I think overall we win fishing and maybe a draw hunting.
We win food
They have Talladega but we have NOLA

La food and outdoors >> Al food and outdoors big time. But like you said, it's personal preference. I grew up on the water so that's where I rather be.

I've lived in both states. I'd put Louisiana slightly ahead of Alabama...Love the food and culture of South Louisiana...

In the end, even though I rather live somewhere like coastal AL, I think LA is the better state when it's all said and done.

coastal Alabama is great, the east shore of Mobile. I also like Huntsville, Ala as well...

I'd prefer Alabama. I don't care about hunting, fishing, and that stuff.

I agree with you in that I would rather live by the ocean..but coastal mississippi isn't that bad if you're looking for more outdoors and less glitzy beach homes, condos and strip malls

That's awesome
I grew up in a neighborhood behind the Great Southern golf club in Gulfport..now live in Pass north of Menge Avenue
The coast can be pretty boring and i can't wait to get out and go somewhere..but i have a feeling i'll be coming back eventually..just love the small town coast atmosphere and people here

Yep. I didn't realize how much I'd miss it when I came to LSU. Can't wait to head back home at the beginning of May and take the boat out to the islands

Alabama freshwater fishing is being vastly underrared. Personally I'm not a big fisherman but I do know AL has some of the best bass fishing lakes in the country and tons of these lakes and rivers (Lake Guntersville, Weiss Lake, Smith Lake, Lake Martin, Logan Martin, Wheeler Widlife Refuge, Coosa River lakes, etc). The deer and turkey hunting is MUCH better in AL. Having said all that, LA wins fishing overall because it has an incredible good combination of saltwater and freshwater fishing that few states can match.
P.S. I like the laid back atmosphere of Louisiana much more than in Alabama though. People seem more care free and fun loving in LA and there is always a cultural or community event going on. Louisiana people just know how to have a good time and Alabama could learn a lot from them. The only place in Alabama that comes close to matching Louisiana's laid back fun loving attitude is the Mobile/Eastern Shore area.

Which use to be part of Louisiana.

Aren't Louisiana and Alabama really different sides of the same coin? Either one is better than any place north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Anyway, for all the bad rap it gets, Mobile is nice for its access to all the best parts of AL IMO.
I don't understand it, I always liked Mobile.
