quote:

William Brock shot Loletha Hall on March 25, believing she was part of a scheme to defraud him, according to a criminal complaint. Hall was taken to a local hospital where she died.

quote:

Brock told police that prior to the shooting he had received threatening phone calls from a male caller who claimed one of Brock’s relatives was being held in jail, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

quote:

Hall received a request on the Uber app to pick up a package from Brock’s residence, the news release states. Authorities believe she was “unfamiliar with the circumstances” surrounding the request.

According to the news release, she made no demands of Brock other than to ask about the package she was sent to retrieve

quote:

Uber has banned the account of the individual who ordered Hall’s Uber to Brock’s house, the company said. Authorities believe that individual was either the original scam caller or an accomplice, according to the release.

In the photo, is that the hammer cocked back on his revolver or is that something on his garage?

That poor woman.

Very unfortunate. Apparently this old man never been in trouble or even had a speeding ticket in his life and now he is looking at 10+ years in prison.

Could have been my pawpaw.

Yeah we have to keep an eye on our older relatives. They're prime targets for scammers.

Did he entertain no other options besides shooting the woman?

He shot her several times, because he thought she was a scammer? During broad daylight? Seriously? She made no demands and only asked to pick up a package? At worst he couldn't just hold the gun on her and ask to call the police? He had to just shoot her several times? I guess I need to hear more details, but this is messed up. I don't care what the scammer said I don't see how you can just shoot someone like this who doesn't appear to have anything in their hands. And it's an older woman in her 60s?

Since when did Uber become UPS? Never heard of them being called to pick up packages.

He will die in prison because he's a dumbass and decided to shoot an unarmed person.

Fine by me. He should serve time. People shouldn't overreact like that. Regardless what threats the scammer made you shouldn't just shoot someone several times that poses no threat. I'm just not understanding how he could even go through with it. Disgusting.

Yeah… sorry but PawPaw straight up murdered an innocent human being. The rest of his life is about to be a hell of a lot more inconvenient than just being defrauded by a cellphone scam.

Several years now, we occasionally use them instead of couriers. Works great and you can track the package in real time.

I mean he claims the caller threatened his family if he wouldn't give him the money, but still not a good enough reason to shoot someone who showed up asking for a package. Like come on. It's an older lady by herself asking to pick up a package.
