We are actually 2 average cornerbacks and a staff with a clue away from competing

I’m gonna have to add 3 decent linebackers to that.

Interesting name I saw was Dave Toub, the Chiefs Special Teams Coordinator. I had no clue he had any connection to Mizzou but he was the S&C Coach from '89-98 and the Defensive Line coach from 98-2000. He's widely considered the best special teams coordinator in the NFL and has interviewed for numerous head coaching positions (Dolphins, Chargers, and Broncos).

Who knows if he'd be a good fit, as he's had zero head coaching experience, but it sounds as if the consensus in the NFL is he's a great coach.

Wilson has a rep of being an ace recruiter. Strong wants back in a P5.

Wilson can come sooner and try to salvage 2018 recruiting. If Strong beats Central Florida and is undefeated he may get offers we can't match.

My choice is to secretly lock up Wilson by 11/1.

The LB play is not god awful (unlike the CBs). Garrett has been decent at times. It's not enough to win the east but it's good enough to compete

Make that 2. Hall has been pretty good since BO took over as LB coach and simplified the reads. Garrett has been ok, but is too limited athletically to be much more than he already is.

DE is still the biggest weakness. Great play from the DE can hide weaknesses behind them.

What's your definition of competing?

We are way further away than that from competing for anything of significance.

Exactly, our pass rush doesn't exist. Thus forcing us to blitz and put more pressure on an already weak secondary.

Our DTs are actually pretty good. Teams don't run much up the middle on us.

Other than that, every other unit is subpar at best...terrible at worst.

It's going to take a huge amount of successful recruiting for 2-3 years to turn this around.

I'll disagree. The offense got 80% turned around in one year and has plenty of tools.

If the right coach could do the same for the defense we could be bowling next year.

More than likely we go 3-3 and Odom gets another year.

I’ve seen no indication Barry can hire defensive coaches.

Elarbee and Finley were good hires for sure. Heupel pretty good too all things considered.

Ford and Hill were going to be retained no matter what.

His defensive hires on the other hand...

We should never hire someone because of the color of their skin, but if we do, Matt Campbell is a better choice.

I meant the right head coach. Not Odom.

Charlie Strong, Les Miles, or Gene Chizik might be soured enough on Blue Blood jobs to give Mizzou a shot. I would miss seeing Chizik on the SEC network though and they may pay him more than a HC makes.

The excitement generated by hiring a big name like one of the 3 above would be great for the program if Barry Odom is let go.

Looking back Ford and Hill may have done well if given a shot at a coordinator position during the Pinkel and Odom eras.

Reading all these comments is hilarious. Les Miles? Bo Pellini? Chizik? Rehash the dead?
Look, you guys are going to have to come to grips with the fact Head Coach Barry Odom will be the HC for the Missouri Tigers for the remainder of this season and 2018 season at a minimum. He’s not getting fired in year 2 of his command. If ?Sterk did that, no decent coach in their right mind would ever apply at Mizzou for a job ever again. Coaches have to have a minimum of 4 years to get their players in place, all the program changes, to get crap shows like us turned in the right direction. Now, whether he can do that, remains to be seen. So far it’s pretty ugly. But unless he commits an NCAA infraction, or does something that goes against school policy and or law enforcement, then there is no fireable offense, thus he will be given at least another year to show progress with the football team.
Besides, there are very few good coaches out there that would be willing to leave their school to rebuild our program. Chris Peterson, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or the Penn St. coach are not coming to Mizzou! All the rest that you all keep bringing up are losers, over the hill, or in the process of getting fired at their own schools. Why would we hire someone that doesn’t currently have a coaching job and was fired at their last job to lead ours? Doesn’t make any sense at all. Why would we go after another coordinator be it offense or defense to lead our program. We just did that with Odom, and nobody likes that! Charlie ?Strong couldn’t cut it in ?Texas with all the resources in the world at his feet. None of the coaches any of you have presented on here have ever had to recruit top notch recruits to Missouri. What gives you any idea that they could? You think just because they were outstanding recruiters in Louisiana, Florida, ?Texas, that they could convince a kid to leave his state to come to ?Missouri, when he could play in his own state, in front of his family, at far better programs than in Missouri.
How do any of you know, that in 2 more years, Odom can’t have us at 8-9 wins? If you bring somebody else in, it’s going to take at least that long or longer to get to that point.
Some of you need a jolt or realism. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence...be careful what you wish for!

1. He can't recruit the takented impact players he would need for a turnaround.

2. He cant attract the talented assistant coaches for a
turnaround. Hes on the hot seat, no one will work for him.

3. He is losing revenues. Empty seats dont buy hot dogs or gear.

4. The SEC writes a big check to Mizzou. This type of incompetence is not acceptable for a SEC program.

5. Without better recruits or an asst coach overhall there is no realistic plan that Odom can have for a turnaround.

6. Wilson or Candle will be available. Both have HC experience. Mizzou cannot break ground on the 100 million dollar project, with a 2 dollar coach.

Here's my choice for Mizzou's head coach position when it opens up because this guy can recruit nationally, players respect him, he can coach and Saban believes in him and trust him. Plus he would be happy to coach in the SEC and some of the coaches on Bama's staff would follow him over here.
He was my choice when Odom was hired.

Majic, I've been surprised he hasn't been tapped before as a HC. Unfortunately, I think he's around 65 years old. That'll be a big stumbling block.
