Read in the PD this am, that she has never met Drink either previously or in her recruitment. If true, it seems to me that you'd want to get the person generating a lot of excitement in your major revenue sport and the new potential AD together for at least a little chat to see if they are simpatico before the hire.

Of all the things to be concerned about, that’s actually a legitimate concern.

Mack Rhoades was supposedly a home run... The second coming of Alden I heard people say. I guess what I'm getting at is that conventional hires don't yield the success that it used to. The landscape of college athletics is changing, maybe Mizzou is actually trying to get ahead of it.

Exactly my thoughts. Jim Sterk was national athletic director of the year before coming to Mizzou, had solid football and basketball programs operating at SDSU, a track record of fundraising. On paper he was a grand slam hire for Mizzou, but I’d say he turned out to be just okay during his time here.
We can really only wait and see how it goes.

Yeah. No way a minority woman got preferential hiring status at Mizzou.
My dad always joked that a black woman with a Hispanic surname was a slam dunk hire.

Either that, or you get assurances that she’s not going to bother the footballs.

808…any grumbling from donors that you’re catching wind of? There a couple on the committee they chose her wasn’t there?

I don’t care what gender or what color as long as they excel at what they do. I would love to know what they see that makes them think this particular person is capable of doing that because I’m not seeing it

Been out of town a couple of days. If I hear anything, I’ll post up.

Not mentioned much but the most promising non-fundraising aspect of her resume is this little Wikipedia find:
2014–2017 Virginia Tech (football)
In the last two years there, Virginia Tech had a 10 and 9 win season in the ACC. Obviously she didn't coach the team but IMO that ain't bad at all. Also worth noting, they dropped off to 6 wins the year after she left.

I'm not connected at Mizzou at all. In fact, it has been over 25 years since I have lived in Missouri.
I have been fortunate enough to be in very good shape financially. We are closing on a sale of a commercial property in California and I was looking at a decent six figure donation (no I am not a BMD) just because Drink has me excited and to help out because I live in Oklahoma (for now) and want them to kick the hell out of ou.
I will wait it out now. I will instead buy a new 5th wheel toy hauler instead.

So how exactly does that help the program? If everyone holds back donations, then she becomes a bad fundraiser. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. The only way to judge is to look at her success/failure under normal circumstances. Can she increase upon Sterks success or not.
It's your money, if you want a toy hauler, go for it, but holding back a 6 figure donation seems counter productive and doesn't move the program closer to beating OU.

Calm down. He's saying a comment in hyperbole. He may give a big donation later if he ends up liking her. He initially isn't thrilled with the hire now so he's not freewilling his donation. Opinions can change and no one really knows much about her yet.

With the SEC expansion, it is unquestionably the strongest athletic conference in the nation. You would think that that kind of financial stability and competition would have drawn interest from about 75% of the non-SEC AD's in the country. Plus already having a football coach on board.
I hope she does well and if so, will make donations in the future. But something smells to me and they will have to Show Me.

AD'S are labeled as good fund raisers after the fact. For example, Sterk gets credit for "overseeing" the end zone project. What exactly does that mean? He also gets credit for the indoor practice facility. That was mostly funded by 2 large donations and several 6 figure donations that were project specific. So who the AD is, in all actuality had very little to do with it.
For an AD, perception becomes reality. If our donation numbers dip, the perception will be she's a poor fundraiser. This is something to watch as she may not have a high profile "project" for donations as the indoor facility is fully funded. Renovations to the baseball field may not excite donors without a coaching change. So for now she depends on us tried and true donors.

That’s like saying “Our top salesman signed two huge accounts but we don’t think he was the driving force.” He’s still getting salesman of the year and the bonus.

but what if her hiring is a mistake? by giving money, he is enabling the decision-making process that went on here. waiting until she proves she was a good hire is prudent.
With Drink, there was a certain "who?" reaction by most, and it was only after seeing how he carried himself and what job he was doing in his first year in games and in recruiting that people fell in love with the hire.
