1. Like after SELA last year, impossible to say what this game means as far as the rest of the season means.

2. Franklin: 26/38; 318 yards; 3 TD's and most importantly 0 turnovers. The most important thing for him is to not hurt the team. Just get the ball in the hands of the playmakers.

3. Speaking of playmakers, had 11 players with receptions. Really able to spread the ball around with this team and did a good job of it.

4. Was good to see DGB have a game. Not many touches in the 2nd half, but the game was much different by then. 4 receptions for 83 yards in one half though. Plus his best catch came out of bounds in the endzone, the one handed grab. Absolutely unbelievable.

5. Josey and Hansbrough had 100+ yards and looked great. Really happy for Josey to bust out, but good to see Hansbrough as a legitimate weapon as well.

6. The line gave Franklin great protection, though that would be expected against Murray State. The one thing that isn't as dependent on the opponent is the snaps, and I only remember 1 low snap, and even that ended up in a reception.

Lots of positives to take out of the game tonight on the offensive side, even if it was Murray State. Not touching thoughts on the defense. Gonna enjoy this one and then think about those problems some other day.

Like I said earlier, I'm holding off on my summary of the game.

The fact that tigerboard isn't melting down, and is actually positive makes me feel like maybe I was too critical.

Then again, Tigerboard melts down over every small problem, maybe they can't see the big ones.

I'm so confused.

The offense looked good. And it was nice for Mauk and Berk to both get into the game for some experience. Using all the weapons, and seeing 2 100+ rushing performances was very nice.

And once the defense settled in, they were OK. They got 3 turnovers, which was good. Yes, there are problems, but that's for another day.

Maybe i'm in the minority, I actually thought the team did good. 1st game, hot as hell, vs a FCS team that scores. Not bad.

Hey eveyone. Been kinds of busy the last few months.

My thoughts on the game......

Good points, everyone made it out healthy to my knowledge. They scored alot of points and the offense looked fantastic and racked up some crazy yardage. They should have, they played Murray State. I seen alot of subbing on both sides of the ball. Freshmen were playing in the second half. I like this. To me these non con games are the games these freshmen need to gain experience before the real grind starts. Love Henry is back too. We have alot of good recievers. We have alot of good running backs. It appears we have depth on the both lines also finally, they all looked good. I like the referbished offense.

Not so good points, there were times it appeared to me that both the offense and defense were playing down to Murray States level. I'm glad the coaching staff corrected this at halftime. It appeared to me they came out with a different attitude. Even though the defense looked suspect in the first half, they came out and shut the lights off and closed the door on a presumably good offense. Still, I think the conditioning of the players on both sides had an effect in this. Could be taken as either a good point or bad point. Lastly, I seen signs of the old Franklin now and again, you know the throwing flat footed thing.

To me, I won't be at rest until they prove themselves in a game against a conference opponent. Beat Vandy in thier house and thats a step in the right direction.

My thoughts from the student section:

1. James Franklin is back! He looked real good even stood in the pocket and made several nice long throws to receivers. Franklin ability to escape has returned and had several nice runs.

2. Henry Josey is awesome! He received the loudest ovation of the night when introduced in the pregame lineups. Josey started off slow and it seemed the coaches were trying to work him into the game slowly, but once he scored on his long touchdown run everyone knows he is back because the corner had the angle and Josey took it away with his speed.

3. The Defense is a big question mark. They played like crap the first half really, and got no pressure on the QB and were many times where the Qb threw over the middle of the field for large chunks of yardage. However, after the second half the defense seemed to improve significantly, and we got more pressure on the QB and hit him on a few throws forcing INT'S. The big question mark for me on defense is the safeties, and the DT's because they really struggled tonight for a half at least. On the bright side Braylon Webb had an interception and that guy along with Matt White probably make up two worst starting safeties in the country.

4. We are DEEP at WR! We have potentially 7 guys who could go for a 1000 yds on any other team but since not all of them start the chances of this happening is slim, but Sasser (the fumbling momentum killer) Lucas, White, DGB, Clark, Washington Franklin has a lot of options.

5. EJ Gaines is awesome!

6. The new entrance video this year was the best in years using past and present players talking about protecting the ZOU! I liked it!

7. frick the lousy arse students who went home and left a gap in the upper side of the student section closest to the hill. There were gaps in the alumni section too just not as noticeable.

8. CROWD ENERGY SUCKED AS USUAL! The MIZ ZOU chant was pathetic. The only time the place really got loud was when Josey scored. We need to improve and make this place a difficult place to play for the entire 4 quarters.

9. Shame on us! I haven't really been a fan of Franklin but I'm willing to get behind him if he is declared the starter and our best option. During pregame intro the stadium had almost a collective groan when he was introduced. We need to support our QB this is probably why he gave the quote SEC media days about Mizzou fans being rude to him.

10. Poor fricking Truman had to wear that hot arse suit and I bet he is getting fluids still right now as I write this cause it was one fricking hot day yesterday to the point where I almost decided to skip.

Truman with an IV drip would be appropriate.

One of these days a mascot is gonna die and that moment will change college sports forever.

Also felt a lot more comfortable with this offense being able to pic up a 3rd and 1 as opposed to Yost's style of play. Am I crazy or did anyone else feel the same way with the short yardage situations?

I didn't get to watch the game, but I was glad to see that the offense was clicking after getting what seemed like half your offense back. I'm basing this just on score alone though.

Carry on, sorry for f'n your thread up.

Franklin the good: He threw great on throws 15+ yards down field. Great touch. Good timing with WRs. He only had one stupid throw that was going to be a pick 6 but the CB slipped on the break. Scrambled well on broken pass plays. For the most part didn't run backwards as much as last year.

Franklin the bad: His accuracy and choice of delivery speed on throws less than 15 yards was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! He continuously hung his WRs/TEs out to dry. He was making slant throws to guys running crosses and vice versa. He just flat out looked like he had no idea how to make the short/medium throws. He still threw at least one ball that will be a pick6 vs SEC teams and that will cost Mizzou Ws in those games. He still had a few scrambles that will end up as 15+ yard sacks in the SEC.

Overall, Franklin looked much better than last year but if he doesn't get it together, we have to be able to lean on the run game to carry this offense.

One thing I noticed is Franklin did not look to run. There was a play where he had about 10 yards of open field but still made a throw for the first down. RH looked amazing and even with josey back he could be our best back and that is saying a lot! DGB looked fantastic. Even saw him make some big blocks on running plays.

As for next week. Toledo played tough with Florida. 24-6. So we can use it as a bit of a measuring stick. We all know Florida does not have a good offense. But still for Toledo to hang that close, it could provide a good measuring stick game.

Something to look out for. HCGP said they held back a lot offensively and did not show even half of what they are doing. Did see us still have trouble on the goal line. That was a major difference in games (see Georgia, Florida last year) so hopefully they can get that figured out.

I also noticed he was on the balls of his feet instead of straight legged and flat footed. I did notice some timing issues that he was able to get away with against Murray State but won't be able to against the SEC defenses. I saw several times where receivers had ran their route, made their cut, came back to the ball and was standing there for a brief second before Franklin delivered the ball. Just waited a bit too long to deliver it. Overall, though, was much much better than his showing against SELA last year.

Looks like the center snap exchange is fixed.

Thank goodness! Evan Boehm is going to end up being the anchor of the OL very soon, if he's not already. He reminds me of Barrett Jones a little - could probably play any position on the line, and he's a very smart player that demands a lot from himself.

He had 2 bad snaps in one of the scrimmages and asked the coaches to stay afterwards with him to work on it. Very dedicated.

On Offense
Franklin looked good.
WRs looked good. Only one drop (Sasser) that I can remember.
RBs looked good. Would like to see Morgan in for short yardage.

On Defense
Augusta looks like the real deal.
EJ Gaines, nuf said
Murray St. got 7yds/down in 1st three series, but 2yrd/down after that. Apparently we made the right adjustments.

Dislikes:

On Offense
Clearly, we still can't "move the pile". We've built our OL to create spaces. We still can't push DLs back.
I'd like to see Culkin get more work.

On Defense
No tackles by Ealy or Ray. Really?
Our best LB was on the sidelines because of using nickel package. LBs are quick but can be handled.

Special teams was a mixed bag. Murphy did not unleash and Baggett was shakey at putting thru the goal posts, but boomed every kickoff.

Was disappointed in Ray in Ealy not being more involved. While their apparently were adjustments, the play did give me concerns for when we play JFF. I'm not sure this crew can keep him contained. Too many holes and gaps that he'll exploit.

Special teams was meh. Kicking is still going to cost us. Like getting kickoffs deep in the endzone but I'd take FG's and PAT's being made if it meant only kicking it to the goal line.

Agree with everything you said.

Especially agree with this.

Loved this, but was hoping for more from Murphy. He is capable of it, and the time to show it off is against the non-con teams.

Agree about getting Culkin more involved, but the beautiful thing is that we have so many damn weapons on offense, the ball is going to get spread around. One week I think he'll be more involved, others he won't. No slam against him, but who would have thought Jaleel Clark would have led the team in receptions. Just so many weapons it's inevitable there will be games here and there where someone doesn't get the touches. As long as others are, I'm good with it.

You know, that may be the thing that has me most excited, Reedus. We had 11 receivers get catches, and 2 RBs with 100+ yard games. That's impressive, even considering the competition. IF we can keep Franklin healthy, I feel really optimistic about our offense this year.

Me too. I think a Healthy Franklin can certainly make for some interesting games this year. I was pretty negative on the whole scenario on Saturday night, but after allowing myself to think about it and reading a lot of the reviews here and some good articles, I've caught a case of guarded optimism.

Also, good to see some folks on the Mizzou board during the day. I was beginning to think I was the only one that hangs out here all day.
