They aren't a very bright bunch of people. I get to work with several of their grads in my industry and I continually walk away underwhelmed.

Honestly, if you look at the plays he called vs their quarters defense, he did it right. Lock wasn't terribly accurate and they turned the ball over 3 times.

Mizzou friends - I come in peace looking for a little more info. I noticed a good number of DFW kids in your last two classes from some name programs in the area and was curious what Finley’s recruiting responsibilities were at Mizzou (specifically if they were DFW).
He seems like a good technical coach. Congrats on another solid year and good luck in your bowl game, hope you can deliver an L to our old conference

My favorite part about this board is how y’all always keep it respectful.
Here are the facts. Mizzou has the lowest asst pool in the SEC. Fact. Most P5 programs that want our assistants will be able to offer them more. Fact. Finley will make more at A$M than he was here. Fact

When he goes into a living room with a A&M shirt on he’ll magically turn into a good recruiter.
It always puzzles me that fans of program’s that essentially recruit themselves spend so much time wrapped up in who is a good recruiter or not.

No offence, but shouldn't you be concerned with the type of player he puts on the field? Is he a good communicator, can he teach good blocking techniques?
Recruiting rankings has never been A&M's problem. You guys don't develop teams, you have individual great players from time to time.

I don’t have a lot of questions about that as it seems he did a very good job in that department. In my opinion in order to compete for championships in this league you need to recruit great talent and develop it. If you’re only holding up one end of the bargain you’re putting a ceiling on what you can accomplish. He is replacing the best recruiter we had on staff and one of the best in college football history so his ability to recruit is absolutely important
The other poster can say we recruit ourselves but I don’t agree

His deal was matched by Mizzou. Stop crying. He wanted to go home.

Problem is that there aren't enough true team changing recruits available. Even less after Bama, Georgia and Ohio State take their picks. Fact is no one is going to beat Bama (and that's the real goal) by out recruiting them. We all will have to develop complete teams.
Can it be done, yes. Mizzou played auburn tough in the SECCG, just lost a shootout. That winner plays for the NC. The biggest problem for teams not in the top 5 in recruiting are the fans and boosters insisting on firing coaches too damn soon.

What happened to the coach that Finley's replacing at A&M? Do you think he would come to Mizzou and use some of those great recruiting that you says he has. Finley's teaching skills were highly respected here by both fans and media.

I am interested to see if this is an inside hire. There are several young coaches on staff that might be ready for a promotion to full time assistant.
My first preference would be Will Franklin.
Some other options are Egnew, Carta-Samuels, and Carter.

I’d be perfectly fine with promoting Franklin. He has some great recruiting ties in STL

Put Ofodile at TE coach, Hill back to WR coach, and Wil Franklin to SP teams coach. Back at the positions Ofodile and Hill played in college.

Shane, he was a stud player in Texas football. Between his Dad's contacts as a longtime coach down there and his "one of us" background, he should be good at recruiting TX. As an OU alum/player, he should have inroads in Oklahoma, too. The guy was also in the NFL for a few years, that experience should help his credibility to potential NFL-bound recruits.
He's a good catch for you guys.

I’d rather just move on from Hill, and let Franklin coach the spot he played.

From 1996 to 2012 Hill coached the WR's and we had some pretty good ones. He coached Franklin and Hill is only 55 yrs old. Put him where he excels and that is coaching WR's.

Except Odom hates him.

If Ofodile moves to TE's and Franklin to WR's, dont we run the risk of "too many" Mizzou guys?
