EXCLUSIVE: Fed up with SEC favoritism and UCF's treatment, some important commissioners, presidents and ADs are ready to talk 8-team playoff. Here's @NicoleAuerbach's report.

This is really about money. The contract for advertising was only for 6 of the 12 years, so this is a good time to significantly increase revenue.

Could be a good time for Mizzou, as the coaches seem to be going all in next season. Probably the best chance in a while for Mizzou to make the playoff.

If this system was in place, Mizzou definitely was in the mix in 2007 and 2013. I don't see how any Mizzou fans couldn't be in favor of this.

I hate the playoffs period.

And we keep asking these kids to play more and more games. Where does it stop?

We don’t need to expand the playoffs, hell we don’t even need them. We are at 4 now and both games are double digit spreads.

Do away with conference championship games, and the championship game will still be the 15th game of the year.

FCS does a 24 team playoff. And still finishes with about the same number of games.

No thanks. There's nothing like the SEC Championship Game. I would hate to see it go away.

Without a conference championship game, how do you get to 8 teams?

Four teams with a conference championship is far better than eight teams.

Pick the best 8 teams. Alabama won the title last season without even making the SEC championship game.

More likely though is to give the champions of each P5 conference an auto bid. If a G5 school is ranked in the top 10 they get in. That leaves 2 at large bids.

And we do the conference champion how without championship games?

We have a committee pick those too?

CFB is not structured in such a way that any type of playoff makes sense. Further expanding them would only further devalue what makes CFB unique in the first place.

It really does need to be the 8 best.

Otherwise what if 9-3 Texas knocked off 11-1 OU in CCG?

The problem is Notre Dame not playing in CCG. They can sit back and watch the others fall off the board.

Well, I could see a few times that Missouri would make an 8 team playoff. Which isn't an insult, not many teams could make that.

Once you are in though... Its a three game season. Who is to say that Mizzou couldn't catch fire at exactly the right time?

I personally don't mind an 8 team playoff. Maybe it's because it's about the only chance Mizzou has to get in it.

I wouldn't get rid of the conference championship games. I would eliminate 1 or even 2 of the bullshite games like Missouri St or SEMO or the like.

It's going to happen. Best to plan to advantage. With 5 conference champions and at least 2 at large bids, it will put a premium on scheduling: Win your conference, or go thru a strong schedule to increase your consideration for one of the at large bids. This may actually increase the regular season value, rather than depreciate it as some might fear.

Just make the regular season 11 games again.

Get rid if the pointless FCS game.

I think 6 is a better number for the playoffs, much like the NFL.

Teams would never agree to the revenue loss of a regular season game.

Yeah. That’s the whole reason we play Tennessee Martin.

And the conferences aren’t giving up the conference championship games.

With the attendance trend and having to pay teams to come play, Missouri might come out ahead.

Missouri might (they wouldn’t) but teams whose fans actually go to games certainly wouldnt.

Dropping a reg season game is a non starter.

Dropping the CCG is a non starter

So now you are going to have a couple teams playing 16 games for something that is completely unnecessary. Washington, Ohio St and UCF ain’t beating Bama or Clemson. In fact, nobody is. Very easily could have picked the top two teams as is the case most years.

That doesn’t even address the absurdity of a committee selecting teams for a playoff. CFB is not structured for a playoff. Should have never went down this road. The calls for more teams will never stop. 8 won’t be enough after a few years. Watch

Most high school state champs play 15 or 16 games. The added game isn’t a big deal.

Can't really compare high school with college..

I agree that the conference title games dilute it but we still have them in other sports like basketball. The thing is, it doesn't add value to the play off so it really should just be based on the conference record instead of a final game.
