Stop pissing about the new OC

We don't need some innovative offense. All we need is someone with an "in game" presence. Neither Moore or Drink have any idea what to do once the game starts. They both are so smart off the field, but piss down their leg on gameday. As long as Lindsey isnt the type to be intimidated during the game, we should be fine.

Disagree. Running a handful of plays out of 6 or 7 different formations isnt going to beat the teams you have to get past to be a contender. Thats the Malzahn formula and that is what Drink just hired. Its his comfort zone. You ever wonder why our WRs are draped by coverage on 3rd down? The opposing DC knows what concepts are coming based on distance. The formation is irrelevant. It leads to turnovers in high leverage moments. Lindsey's best year as an OC his team lost 5 of their last 7 games and his QB threw 7 INTs.
This whole "outside zone is our identity" is bullshite. You look at the best teams in our conference and none of them have that said about them by the announcers. They are blending all the rushing concepts together.

I actually agree with this.. Getting another "yes" man from his rolodex is exactly how this offense stays predictable and stagnant. What I hate about this hire is that he's basically already known for doing what we've been doing.

1st...2 weeks ago it was the Pedersen tree that was no good, now its the Malzahn tree.
2nd...80% of D1 coaches will be fired within 5 years.
Conclusion...Given a long enough timeline, with an 80% failure rate, any and all coaching trees will cease to produce. The challenge is recognizing the traits of the 20% who succeed regardless of "tree." IMHO, that trait is "in game presence." Meaning not only the ability to manage your team, but adjust to exploit the weaknesses of the opponent. Most coaches, OCs are lazy and/or unable to truly see from both sidelines. Drink and Moore are prime examples. Kiffin is probably the best in the game.
It's easy to condemn a coaching tree when the odds are 80/20 that you will be right. But its the individual traits that get you the 20% successful coaches. Im hoping with his experience, that Chip can see both sidelines and use whatever offense to be successful. Let's face it, the reason Malzahn or Pedersen or Saban have coaching trees to start with is because at some point they were successful.

A Gus Bus Led Offense as HC was top 25 once in his Auburn career. The year Dave Steckel pissed down his leg, in scoring offense. Did no better than finishing 65th in passing yards per game.

Refusing to go outside the box is going to keep the offense right where it is at. He said he wanted "battle scars". What he meant was familiarity.

Once again, 80% of these guys fail. Regardless of system. Given a longer timeline probably 95% have shite stats.
The question that you should be asking is what is the trait the 20% have? We should be interested in what makes a good coach instead of trying to prove who is a bad coach.

Okay. Other than one Drake Maye season, show me what Chip actually does differently? He runs almost the same system for likely the same results.

Good coaches ... adapt.
Saban didn't run the same offense/defense schemes at Michigan State, LSU, The Dolphins and Alabama.
Ryan Day took on Chip "fricking" Kelly when the OSU boosters were pissed about the Michigan losses and the piss poor OSU/B10 3 yards and a cloud of dirt offenses ...
Smart has run UGA through a few OCs and offensive philosophies ...
A good-to-great coach adapts to his (and opponents) personnel (and tendencies) ...
The thing about Drink is that I haven't seen Mizzou adapt (or even make decent half-time adjustments). I mean, you have the leading rusher in the country and he gets his first carry in the second half ... with 4 minutes on the clock and isn't on the field for a pivotal 4th and 2.
I didn't watch the post game but if nobody asked questions like what I just pointed out above ... we're never going to have a good/great coach.
