Will BO bring in a new DC or just add a position coach?

Would MU be able to lure Grinch away from W-State? He has a Mike Leach team playing functional to good defense. That's coaching.

Would Odom bring Grinch in if he had the opportunity?

If Odom would bring in a DC, but not be interested in Grinch - who would be a good possibility?

I don't know, but I'm hoping he brings in an experienced DC.

We actually have two full time positions open at the moment. I'd like to see a DC and a dedicated ST coach

I am betting that the new DC is Walters.

And that BO will continue to call the defense.

I posted yesterday about Carter a name I have heard a few times as a possible new position coach.

Finally. We agree.

With the defense turning around a solid DC wouild only make things better.

Walters is not that guy

You 2 better prepare yourselves to be disappointed. Because the odds are that BO wants to run his defense.

I’d also rather see someone other than Walters. Secondary looked awful for most of the year.

I know BO likes Walters a lot, but I just think we'd be much better served by hiring someone experienced in a running a defense

You are missing the point. I think BO wants to run his defense, and will want to be the play caller.

Walters would handle all the nonplay calling DC duties.

IMO this is the correct answer and I'm good with it

1. John Chavis when Sumlin is fired.

2. Vance Bedford is not coaching after Texas fired Charlie Strong.

Both of those guys had two deeps loaded with 4* talent and they allowed 30 ppg the last two years. I'll pass.

I get your point. I don't agree.

When BO first started he had a DC that ran that side of the ball and made the calls. Of course, he was involved and would still remain so.

I don't think you can say that's what he wants when this was more out of necessity.

Nothing about Walters on field product suggests he is ready to set a defense. Vandy throws it 37 times a game and I think they will complete 60% of their throws this weekend. I don't see Odom being able to sell promoting Walters to Sterk.

Walters is already CO-DC. Sherrills has been the best player on the defense during the winning streak.

I still say that the defense next year will be BO’s defense, Walters is the guy that’s repeatedly mentioned on PM as the most likely guy to be the DC. It’s mostly in name only as BO will be the real DC.

I am fully aware that Walters was named Co-DC and Gabe is guy with an opinion, just like anyone else. I think Walters coaching is suspect. To the point of the last 4 games, 38 TFLs putting the offense behind the chains tends to make a secondary look better when they don't have to make high/low low hat reads on 3rd down.

Do you guys know of any college programs that have had big success with a head coach calling the defense and the DC handling the game plan, prep, and practice.

I know Belicheck has done this a few years with the Patriots with success, but I don't know of any college examples.

TCU with Patterson.
Virginia and BYU with Mendenhall.
Are the 2 that come to mind.

Richt at Miami is being the QB coach, OC and DC.

Maybe Richt is just doing a Saban then, and working with the QB’s. Saban works with the secondary a lot at Alabama.
