We have more talent overall than K-State, however, Drink's teams have underperformed a bit on the road.

1: Limit Deuce Vaughan. Turn him into a mere mortal and we win this game. If that means stacking the box most of the time, I can live with that. Utillize the run blitz. Blake Baker needs to call a good defensive game. Vaughan is patient in reading line blocks and cuts back really well in the open field. K-State's line is good at getting him angles holes to run through. They don't need to blow you off the line.

2. Make Adrian Martinez beat you with his arm. Don't let K-State dominate the clock for four quarters with time-consuming drives.

3. With our playmakers, just run the offense and let Burden, Lovett and Peat execute. It would be helpful if Cook hit a couple long pass plays, he needs to make solid assessments on passing and running opportunities.

4. Avoid boneheaded plays. If we play error free, we win. K-State's philosophy
is to slow down the game and goad you into playing stupidly and taking advantage of that. They win this way even with lesser talent.

I think our DC Baker is a keeper. It's entirely possible that we're not a good matchup for K-State if our running defense is legit. I think we win, but this should be a good, close game.

27-20 Mizzou.

I don't know if we win, but I do think we'll cover that 8.5 and will be taking Mizzou appropriately.

A problem we may have is the run game pulling the LB’s closer to the line. Martínez can complete the passes between the LB’s and the safeties.

4-3-4 man and bring the SS to help with the run and spy the TE or the 3rd receiver. SS basically becomes the 4th LB

That’s the base “D” we teach youth teams. In 5th grade we turn the 4-3-4 base man into a 4-3-4 zone with a lot of corner blitzes.

It works at any level against a run heavy offense. With a passing offense switch it up.

Well our base is a 4-2-5, and we've got good speed. Ty'Ron Hopper can pick it up and lay it down. He and Martez Manuel are thumpers. I respect the blocking schemes of K-State and Deuce Vaughan's patience in waiting for lanes to open. Martinez is the weak link for them, but if they can run consistently on us, he won't be exposed.

My question is how will Blake Baker attack it and neutralize their backing schemes?

Good question. Regardless of the answer I think it likely comes down to our safeties. They need to be able to get to the LoS quickly and not miss.

I don't care if it is only one week, did you even remotely think you would ever be typing those words after finishing 124th in rushing D last year?

That's progress by any measure!

Defense looked infinitely better than last year.

Shawn Robinson was listed as a starting LB on K State’s initial depth chart, but didn’t suit up last week and won’t play against his former team this week either. K State’s starting RG Taylor Poiter will also miss this week

After watching our game again and watching the K-State game. I don't have much doubt that we'll keep it within a TD.

I also think that the 11:00 AM kick will play in our favor.

4-2-5 is a type of 4-3-4 with nickel personnel. When Mizzou is in 4-2-5 it uses 2 safeties, 2 CB’s, and a STAR. In a run heavy offense you won’t need the star/extra safety. It could be better to have 3 LB’s with a SS spy.

In this type of D if you keep the starting lineup instead of Manuel playing in the star he would lineup as the WILL LB, Hopper/Bailey as the SAM, and Hopper/Bailey as the MIKE. I would prefer Nicholson as the other LB and Manuel as the SS.

Hopper is fast and strong enough to play any of the LB positions. When he got the INT it looked like he was in the MIKE. I like him there

I'm still mad at the last meeting with them in 2011. 24-17, UGLY game.

Hard not to be insecure when you watch your conference dissolve, knowing that you are a borderline G5 level program in terms of fanbase, money, brand name, etc and feeling that you’ll be left behind. And they’re jealous because they see themselves as similar to Mizzou, and we ditched that shithole and are now in a strong situation while they are not. Many of them have also bought into the beaker propaganda that Mizzou caused the downfall of the Big 12 even though they all wish K state had the foresight to have made a similar move

idk Lads, don't feel great about this one.

I still dont get how every computer ranking had our Defense WAY lower than our offense in rankings.

I think it overly emphasized those long plays that were simple breakdowns in coverage.

But I agree. We lead the country in rush defense, didn’t give up a ton of yards and somehow the defense is still graded out as pretty average.

I guess it was those big plays on which we got burned. We're first in Rushing D, but way down the list with 336 passing yards allowed.

I watched a replay of Drink's presser yesterday on prep for K-State. I get that he has to elevate the opponent and emphasize the things we need to improve on, but I have to say I came away from that less optimistic about Saturday. Hope I'm wrong!

Not even, Ive seen our defense ranked between 70-90 in the country. Ive seen our offense ranked as high as 30-somthing
