What are your opinions on him?

I've never been a big fan. He appears to have gotten unbelievably lucky with Pinkel, but his worth to the basketball program has been abysmal.

He pushed Norm out, he hired Quin over Self, he gave Quin an extension, he allowed Quin to bring nationwide embarrassment to Mizzou, he made a decent hire in Anderson, then replaced him with a coach who was about to be FIRED from Miami.

I personally am terrified at the thought of Pinkel retiring while Alden is still at the helm. The thought of Alden picking our next football coach makes me feel sick.

Under Alden's watch, Mizzou has won FIVE conference championships across ALL sports in 16 years. That includes ZERO in basketball and football. Let me repeat, Mizzou has won FIVE conference championships in 18 different sports over 16 years. Not to mention zero national titles in any sport.

18 varsity sports X 16 seasons each = 288 unique sports seasons.

5 conference championships in 288 seasons. Pathetic.

The wrestling program is the only men's program to win a conference championship since Alden came to Mizzou.

Never been a fan of him. He's a pedicure, trophy for the 5th place team kinda guy.

He's overly politically correct, it comes off as overdone and cold.

Not a fan of his rebranding at Mizzou. To be clear, rebranding and evolution was necessary, just not a fan of his style.

He seems like the kind of guy who should be an AD at Northwestern or some smaller northeastern school, not Mizzou.

Does anyone know where Mike Alden was born and raised? Can't find it online.

I am 1000% the same way. Your analysis is spot on with the way I feel about Alden.

I understand being upset, but you got to remember where our AD was at before Alden. It was total dog shite. BB was ok because of Stormin Norman, but the rest of our sports, facilities, etc sucked big donkey dick. We only won 7 regular season conference championships in the 16 years before Alden, and 5 of those were in BB.

Whoever follows Alden will be the benefactor of his work and hopefully will get us over the hump. Alden has hired good WBB, VB, and SB coaches. The MBB coaches have been up and down though. Didn't Alden hire Pinkel? His next hire will probably be baseball.

I'm not sure that can be totally pinned on the former AD.

The university made a decision to stop investing in athletics.

I will say that whoever decided to put in the omniturf deserves to be water boarded.

He really shouldn't mess around any more with Haith. Haith was a weirdo hire in the first place. Alden should sack up and make the change now because if he waits I see our bball program taking significant steps backward. Haith does not develop players, so I am doubting anything good will come from him from here on out.

Alden, don't make the same mistake that you did with Quin. Don't wait an additional year to make a decision that should be made now.

That is about the only thing Haith has done right so far. Look at Ratliffe, English, Denmon, Dixon, Jabari Brown, Oriahki, Rosburg, Torren Jones, just to name a few.

all those guys greatly expanded and improved their game after playing under Haith.

Haith's issues are relying too much on transfers which builds an environment of no trust and no leadership. Also, he needs to caoch a more physical and relentless defensive mindset or recruit players with more of that mindset.

Let's also keep in perspective that when Alden took over, Missouri was in the bottom half of revenue in the Big 12 and any championships in any sport was non-existant with the sole exception of basketball.

He did get donors to belly up to fix delapidated sports infrastructure, rally the base and move Missouri into the top half of revenue in the B12. That made us a true candidate for realignment.

But, yes, basketball has been his achilles heal.

I think Haith is a pretty good recruiter, but he just can't seem to coach up and develop the talent. He needs Ernie Nester back.

Speaking of which, the word last year was that the real money was waiting to see what happened this past season because many weren't happy with Pinkel the year before. Any rumors floating around out there now that we won the east and GP has gotten an extension?

No. Those coffers won't be tapped until it needed. The current renovations are enough for now.

The only players Haith can lay claim to are Rosburg and Jones, and he never plays Jones because Haith is retarded.

The other guys were developed 2-3 years BEFORE Haith ever saw them.

Alden is a very good AD. The expansion that has come on his tenure is incredible. Though this is not entirely up to him alone, he took over a department with an annual budget of under 20 million and it now sits at ~70 million.

He took a athletic department with absolutely horrid facilities and has raised the money to make them some of the best around. He is also devoted to increasing facilities for the non-revenue sports. The new facilities might not be absolute cream of the crop but they are certainly something that will catch the attention of recruits.

The coaches he has hired are a mixed bag to say the least. He did a decent job of hiring Pinkel but he did a much better job of sticking with him after 05 and letting his system develop.

Believe it or not, Quin was exactly the right hire at the time over Bill Self but in that case conventional wisdom did not play out with performance. Anderson was a good hire initially as well. I hated the Haith hire personally but I don't believe he has had time to clean up the complete recruiting mess that Anderson left.

Baseball should be looking for a new coach, however the one we have had several good years not long ago so I think he deserved a chance to redeem himself. Softball and wrestling are fine.

Women's basketball would be hard to revive but the move to the SEC made that job much harder than it would have been in the Big12.

The best thing about Alden is that he actually cares about the success of Mizzou and takes everyone's opinion into consideration. He responds to emails from people over trivial matters and will spend time meeting you even if you are not going to donate millions to the school.

I would say that overall he has done a wonderful job for Mizzou. I might even escalate that to outstanding if he could ever learn how to pronounce Missouri.

He has done a great job. He has hired Pinkel who has completely turned around the football team. The money and revenue with the athletic department is through the roof and if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be in the SEC.

Really glad none of you are in charge of hiring the AD. Alden has done a very, very good job.

When he came to Mizzou we had a $13.7 million budget and now it is at $74 million. Our facilities have greatly been upgraded and no way would we have been invited with the football team when he got here.
