Copelin was recruited as a Safety. The entire 2011-2013 recruiting strategy is very curious to me. The lack of WR/RBs that were brought in is the reason this team is playing Freshman and Sophomores right now.

Good point JQ. Copelin was physically awesome. I watched him play ST on kick-offs, wow...fast. Not sure about his hands.

2 of the WRs recruited and kicked off would be starters this year.
Could have a top 3 of Copelin, Brown, & Lee.

Lee would give Mizzou a true slot option that could control the middle of the field.

Copelin never played safety for us. He was always a WR

I think this is mostly resultant of he 2012 season.

There is an obvious personnel problem on offense.

The next couple of years should be better, but I honestly have my doubts.

Lock will be a good one, still believe that. However the Oline is going to be a real problem going forward. I'm talking a program killing problem too, one of those problems that begins like it has and spirals out of control.

I'm not sure the staff saw any of this coming. Some of it, like Mauk and Hansbrough is understandable.

Not seeing the obvious deficiencies at WR and OL is on the coaches though.

GP had better be putting together a plan right now, or he's not gonna make it another year. He had a lot of wind in his sails, and he's navigated into a dead zone.

Magically winning a few more games would go along way for next year, but I can't see them winning another game.

If they can gut this out and win a few more, then there is hope. 4-8 and I think we need to start seriously discussing the future.

I think they did see it coming.

The staff has brought in 12 WRs the last 2 classes.
Went hard after several JUCO OTs last year. And again this year even before the year started.

A JUCO WR might have made a difference this season.

These guys are super green right now, and the guys that should be stepping up, (Leftwich) suck.

The OL stuff is baffling, that's squarely on the coaching in my mind. We've faced some legit DL's this month, but they still just look discombobulated.

Maybe the October struggles will reap some November success. Hopefully the team is keeping their collective head up.

If the OL stuff can get fixed, I think this is a decent team. The experience Lock and the young WRs are gaining cannot be discounted going into next season.

They just really need some momentum for a smooth transition. If they continue to lose traction there's not much hope for next season either.

I'm still completely baffled by the Abbington thing, I'd feel better if he was getting some looks for experience if anything. If this season is lost, and it is from a east standpoint, then why not get him in there?

I'm gonna try and stay positive fellas, what's done is done, let's hope we start to see improvement somewhere on offense.

You forgot about 6'7" Justin Smith at WR along with Johnson who got hurt and was playing really well at fall camp.

N Strong will be here at RB and Walters will be healthy

if we can get our OL to be okay...then offense will be much better. Of course we need an OC that doesn't suck

Iowa State just fired Mangino as their OC.

You suppose he has called Pinky yet?

As bad as he is, he'd be an upgrade over what we have.

Mangino - I don't think he should be our guy. K-State player and assistant at oU. Couldn't recruit for ku. Why? Upgrade? I see no compelling reason.

Sorry, that was sarcasm.

I'm pretty confident GP will be here regardless of what happens. People called for him to be fired after 2012, and he proved everyone wrong. Some people wanted him gone after Indiana, and we all what happened after that.

I'm relatively optimistic for the future. This team is ridiculously young, you've got to think they'll show some improvement in the next year or two. People seem to think that Lock would come in as an 18 year old and transform the offense, which is almost impossible considering the lack of established weapons we have, not to mention we really only have 2/5ths of a line.

I keep sitting here saying to myself, ok get it out of your system and recognize the potential of 2016 and 2017.

Then I see tweets like this:

@Dave_Matter: Henson says you have to have new wrinkles to get through problems but you need right personnel & hard to start new stuff in middle of season

I understand it's difficult to change your scheme in a week but how do you not have the personnel to make incremental improvements after an 8 win, 5 win, and 2 back to back eastern division titles?
So if we don't have the personnel to overcome our problems today will we have what we need in the upcoming future?

We lost to Vandy bruh. A team who has not beat a P5 team in 2 years.

In the words of Sheldon Richardson: Vandy Bruh?!?!?!

Matter had an article today saying that there were 10 drops by receivers on catchable passes. Not all were easy catches, but all made contact with the hands.

The WRs this year have almost no experience. This is the greenest WR group that I can remember in at least the last 10 years. The passing game in the future, should be really good.

Too late. I remember griping back when we were taking those classes with next to no WR's and OL. It's just come full circle now.

Here's what I don't get about WR's being young.

If it were an issue of running wrong routes or getting separation, I could buy the young excuse. But how does one go from not being able to catch a ball at 18 to all of a sudden being able to catch a ball at 19?

Personally, I don't think you can. I've kept waiting for Moore to develop good hands and never has. Simply catching the ball consistently...you either can or you cannot IMO.

It happens.

There's a lot going on out there, enough that it can be overwhelming enough to forget how to do the most basic thing.

Experience matters, these guys can catch footballs, they just have to get to the point where they aren't thinking about everything else.

That's sports man. Moving up a level, everything is faster, the play books are bigger, crowds larger, and new stuff is learned weekly.

It can be a lot to handle. I'm gonna give them benefit of the doubt, it's the guys like Leftwich that piss me off.

Yeah, I think some will get it. I think others never will. I don't know who is who yet though. I just keep thinking...I was able to catch a fly ball in little league, I was able to catch one in high school and I was able to catch one in college. I didn't all of a sudden forget how to catch a fly ball with any next step. Guess football is different. I do understand that.

Imagine being faster and bigger than most everyone you go against.

And the guys that do give you a challenge aren't at your level.

It's easy, you beat them almost everytime, and can be open enough to catch the ball.

Now, imagine being used to that and walking into a league that has legit NFL guys on almost every defensive secondary, plus a playbook you've never seen, plus new moves you've never, ever had to learn because you could get free at will in HS.

Not to mention the guy throwing it to you is going through the same shite.

That's being a greenhorn WR in the SEC.

It's probably not fun right now for those guys. I hope they can keep their heads about them as they navigate through this.

It also may not be physical. Some people just do not have the mental fortitude to perform in pressure situations. Playing in front of 1000 people in high school is vastly different than playing in front of 70-100k and on national television.

Moore is a good example of this imo. Despite being a high caliber athlete with great length he consistently has mental lapses throughout a game. Dropping easy catches, not knowing where you are on the field, etc.

Pinkel talks about this a lot. I do think it can develop over time though.
