Mauk, Hansbrough, Leftwich, and the Senior OLine

These were supposed to be the big leaders of this offense. With an experienced OLine the offense was going to be a run first and a lot of designed QB runs/draws.
We have literally turned into a pass first team that can't do anything on the ground.
People who want to blame Drew Lock for missing throws or our young WRs are a little short sighted and out of touch. Except for Leftwich, he's a Senior and couldn't catch a beach ball.
The truth is we lost 1 of our 2 dynamic play makers in the first game. Our 2nd dynamic play maker was too busy committing rule violations to bother showing up on Saturdays and then, to make matters worse, he got suspended for what appears to be the entire season.
We have a mostly Senior offensive line that can't run block or get 1 yard on the goal line. It's inexcusable. This falls on the players personally and the offensive coaching staff for not preparing these guys physically and mentally.
So what do you have?
We don't have our #1 playmaker healthy. Our #2 playmaker is suspended. Our #3 playmaker Senior WR is terrible. Our OLine has been a complete disaster.
It's the perfect storm of shite.
Some of that is on the coaching for not doing their jobs in the off season and with recruiting.
But, with most things, it's on the players. This team has no Senior leadership on offense. It's apparent on defense we have the players and the attitude to compete, but the offense has given up at this point and there is no one there to step up and take control and lead this young group.
So where does that leave us? All of these cancerous seniors will be gone next season. We get rid of No Hands Leftwich, No block Hall, McWhiff, No Ankle Hansbrough, Maukdealer.
Returning offense will have no Seniors, except Cuellar if he plays.
So basically get used to more of the same next year with a slight improvements to 7-5 or 8-4.
I truly believe 2017 will be the year we make a great title run. Here would be our 2017 starting lineup on offense:
QB: Drew Lock JR
WR: Nate Brown SR
WR: J'Mon Moore RS SR
WR: Dilosa, Hall, + 2016 RS FR
TE: Jason Reese RS SR
RB: Abbington RS SR, Witter SR, Doherty, + 2016 RS Fr
The OLine is the question mark, if they can develop the RS Fr that are currently #2 on the depth chart, this should be a very good offense by 2017.
It's hard to be excited about much right now, but I really do believe we're 2 years out from another great Championship run.
(This doesn't count into fact injuries, drug dealers, gf beaters, car accidents, or anything else that might change this lineup)

I guess I'm the only one that thought Leftwich played his arse off against Vandy

Yea how much time has Lock had to build a connection with Leftwich? Deep balls more than anything are about timing. Mauk got all of the reps with Leftwich until about 3 weeks ago. Is that enough time to really build a passing relationship?
The ball to Hall should have been caught, Leftwich had 2 or 3 that he dropped, Brown and Moore both should have had TDs.
Lock is going through Freshman growing pains, and people are putting ridiculous pressure on him to CARRY this offense, which is ridiculous.
The Senior RB, the Senior OL, the Senior WR should be making the TOUGH plays and carrying the FRESHMAN on their back. Instead we are seeing the complete opposite.
If Lock has any confidence after this year we succeeded.

I don't disagree but I'm willing to bet that DL has thrown several hundred balls to every receiver from Spring until now. Also pretty much every pass play is timing.

True, true and true but I'm willing to bet if you ask DL, he should be making every throw.

I don't remember 1 drop....seriously. I know there a couple that he didn't come up on balls he dove for but those are ridiculously hard catches especially on turf.
Look I like DL and I think we'll be really good next year and great the year after that.
Also there isn't a swinging dick on this forum more frustrated than me but I see very good things in the future; hopefully the future in 2 weeks.

I still see nothing but excuses on why we lack any ability to run a competent offense.
Moore has been in this system for 3 years, Reese for 3, Culkin for 4, Leftwich for 5, Hunt for 5, O-Line for 5, Brown for 2.... So this idea of waiting and waiting is just weird to me. Will they improve, yes, but we are picturing these kids turning into a "championship" team, which in WDWWD speak is make a run for a division title, is short sighted to me.
We really make excuses for this coaching staff we really do. We live in an era where kids literally play in the spread from middle school. Quick twitch athletes are not made in the weight room, we are lacking the ability to create explosive plays because our coaches have failed in recruiting. That's the bottom line. We see impact freshman everyday but yet we have to sit back and say "this is mizzou and once we get them with Ivey in the next 2-3 years that said person will be a beast"... Smh
Pinkel has failed this season and that's on him. You can whine about the 90's and praise him because he brought division titles. The reality is is all he is good for is division titles in weak divisions and losing to top tier opponents on the big stage.

The WR position is sort of explainable from a recruiting standpoint. Let's look at the last 5 years of WR recruiting:
2011: Leftwich and some unranked guy named Hannah
2012: DGB(kicked off the team), Darius White(transfer/graduated)
annnnnnnnnnnd WHAT? You recruited 2 ranked receivers in 2 fricking years? You got a 1 and done transfer as well. Holy shite are you fricking kidding me? If you want to look at the problem with our WRs right now look no further than these 2 years.
2013: J'Mon Moore.
So then you go and recruit 1 fricking WR? Is this a joke? We recruited more fricking QBs than WRs in 2013.
2014: Desean Blair, Lawrence Lee(ESPN 300, kicked off team), Kenyon Dilosa, Thomas Richard, Nate Brown, DGBs brother(never arrived)
Wow panic mode there Gary. Oh shite we have no WRs, time to recruit 6 and pray they help immediately.
2015: Richaurd Floyd, Justin Smith, Emanuel Hall
3 more quality WRs.
Long story short, for 3 years Gary Pinkel decided to ignore the WR position. That is on him.

You are going to have to point out the multiple drops by Leftwich because he's the only guy on the team that consistently catches the ball. He probably would have had 200+ receiving yards if Lock could have hit him.
3 plays where he had two good steps on the CB and Lock overthrew him each time. Also a Play in the end zone where he again beat the CB badly and the throw was way too far outside and carried him out of bounds.
He was beating that CB like a rented mule all game.
I still have confidence in Lock in the future, but he's a major contributor in this offense being shite as well.

1st drive over the middle, dropped the TD, dropped a slightly overthrown ball that ended up being PI, dropped a late 4th quarter ball that was slightly underthrown but hit him in the hands.
Leftwich has been dropping passes all year.
However, Lock should have hit him at least on a few deep passes. I agree.

Didn't drop the TD or the ball on the PI call. Those were both terrible throws.
Didn't see the other two you referenced.
Again, he's been the only guy on the team to catch the ball with any consistency this year.

Lock puts the ball where only the WR is going to catch it. Are they always well thrown? No. Ball hits you in the hands you should catch it.
If Lock was as inaccurate as people think on here he would have thrown a lot more INTs.

Some of that is on the coaching for not doing their jobs in the off season and with recruiting.
But, with most things, it's on the players.
While the players are not without blame this is primarily a coaching issue in two ways.
1. Must recruit players, the move to the SEC hurt recruiting but lets face it we have wayyyyyy under recruited over the years. Hell cannot even keep a good number of our in state talent.
2. Coaching on the Offensive side has not put these players in position to succeed. Coaching is a results driven profession. I coached HS Football for 17 years and I a telling you this offensive staff deserves to be fired at seasons end. It is their job, that they are highly paid for to coach-up, motivate and use scheme to set up the team to succeed. The defensive staff has done so and the offensive side has failed.

Several times he puts it where no one can catch it.
There is a difference between having a chance to make a great catch and dropping a ball.
On the other side of the coin, if your WR is two steps behind the DB he shouldn't have to dive to try and make a catch.
I agree that his WR are not helping him by making great catches, but with better throws they wouldn't have to.
Lock missed Leftwich for at least 4 huge plays Saturday with just piss poor throws.

Those are catches that good teams make. Kentucky beat Mizzou with catches like that. They had a guy catch 2 passes 1 handed while falling out of bounds. They haven't made those catches against anyone else.

Lock is playing like a freshman...plain and simple. Fans want him to play like say an experienced junior. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN especially without a running game.
Be real and get real Tiger fans.
Eight games in at 4-4, we are now pass the "desperate" point. I'm frustrated by (what I conceive as) lack of offensive imagination and player rotation. Hunt and Abbington should be playing more. Younger O-Linemen should be rotating-in. Try mis-direction runs. Use double TE's. Shorten the pass routes and use the TE's more. How about a slant route at least once per game? Sweeps? Reverses? Wildcat (not my fav) but at least try it. Give Zanders and Printz the controls for a series. Put in a faster OL as a fullback to block on short yardage play. Double RB's. Shuffle passes? Statue of Liberty (worked for Boise St). QB keep on pass down, Lock has some wheels. Make the D guess more. Extend drives any way you can and let the D rest. So far, the O is very predictably plain and bad. I wanted Mizzou to run between the tackles also, but it's been proved they can't. What do we have to lose???

When we heard about Culkin in 2012 before his injury it was so much praise about his ability. What happened to using that? You have a 6'6 TE that is a mismatch height wise against safeties and should have enough speed to beat ILB's. How do you not use that target down the seams or underneath?
Even in zone coverage you have a 6'6 target to at least find a hole in the middle that draws the attention of a jack or safety. It boggles my mind when I see him run multiple out routes from the slot or corners attached at the line of scrimmage.

I knew we really didn't recruit anyone with dgb and that is part of the problem

I agree, he needs to put more air under those balls, but there is a reason they are low percentage passes. An offense cannot live off of home run passes, which is basically what we have done the last 2 years. Remember that USC game last year?

I agree, but I'm not talking about great catches with defenders on you. I'm talking about missing wide open WR streaking down the field. You are right though, WR aren't making tough catches when they have the chance either.

We did, but he was also kicked off the team. Copelin would likely be starting for us right now.
