Sure thing, bro.
One team played almost 60 entire minutes with zero backbreaking penalties.
The other team opened the game with 4 penalties inside two minutes for about 50 effing yards, all but gifting them their first TD.
But yes. All on the players. Def not the coaches for knowing how to teach this damn group disciplined, fundamental FB.
GTFO here with your nonsense. This team wasn’t ready to play and it showed. The coaches outside of Walters weren’t ready to play and it showed.
We lost to a depleted team that was mediocre already without the players they missed. I’m sorry. That O is garbage and those qBs suck arse.
Barry and Finley just sucked more arse.

How was Walters good and Odom wasn't? They are both responsible for the defense. You're not making any sense.
Again, we don't shoot ourselves fatally 3 separate times we win the game, have well over 500 yards and Finley is the greatest coach ever. 3 plays he has absolutely nothing to do with and he sucks. Lol, kills me you guys can't/won't see that.
You are right though. Texas isn't very good. We were clearly a better team. That was the very definition of beating yourself. It sucks to lose a game you should obviously win.

All irrefutable facts that can't be spun any other way.
Unless you're a paid pump.

Careful. This opinion is dangerously close to criticism of the coaching staff.
That dog won't hunt 'round here, son.

U kidding?
That's 99% of the posts on this board.
This board is a "coaches suck" echo chamber. There may be like 5 posters who don't base every post on that general idea.

I like Odom. I think he still has a lot to learn, especially at the organizational standpoint. We have to remember that all of this bowl stuff is new to him too. Organizing things, and keeping the kids focused on the game, but still letting them have fun is sometimes tough to juggle!
I remember my HS hog coach telling me one of his most difficult jobs was homecoming week. Too many activities, and not enough focus on the game. Bowl games are similar in that respect.
I think field position, penalties, and turnovers doomed us in Houston last night. I don’t think Joe Jon was willing to take too many risks down inside the 5. Maybe he was playing not to lose instead of winning, but caution was certainly the theme of the night.
We just made way too many mistakes to win the football game. I think Texas showed us another reason why recruiting 4-5* guys is important. When you can afford to lose 9 frontline players and replace them with very talented backups is one of the biggest differences in our program and elite programs. If we lost 9 starters, Wm and Mary would be a tough game for us!

Texas is pretty much the poster boys for the stars don't matter argument. They were pretty bad actually despite whatever their recruiting ranking said they are. They aren't that.
We most definitely beat ourselves in this game and it was pretty evident we were the more talented team. Their punter was the only standout player they had. The NT Ford is pretty good too.

I thought their linebackers played well too. They filled gaps on the run, and put lickings on anybody going across the middle.
I thought they looked much bigger and faster than us. But to take 9starters off that team, and play as well as they did, is a tribute to their recruiting. If you take 9starters off our team, we might as well not show up! So don’t kid yourself about the talent level on the field last night. They were good specially on defense.

That was not my takeaway from that game. Offensively I saw a team that needs work, similar to ours last year against power 5 opponents, but defensively they had athletes causing us problems.

Ok....I just disagree. No biggie.

Teams are conservative when backed to their goal line. Why? They don't want to risk a TO down there and setup a short field for the other team. Everyone should know this, I agree. It's just puzzling why they bitch about when they know it's how things are handled.
Damn. You know what. I never thought about it that way. Thanks for imparting your wisdom.

What field position did we have on that first drive after the half?
Hint, it wasn't inside our own 10.
Hint. Damn near the same starting field position we had in the first possession of the game.

The false start on the first drive killed the drive.
Posted on 12/28/17 at 11:03 pm to reedus23
No, the first play of that drive was 1st and 15 from our own 13. Bad field position AND behind the sticks. Run for no gain. Pressure on the QB Dropped pass, may have gained a few yards. Sets up a 3rd and 15. Called a screen. Completely reasonable play call for that situation. Ball out of the QBs hands quickly and very little chance of a TO. I guess if you really wanted to nitpick you could take issue with the 1st play call, but that's only because it didn't work.
The TD drive to start the second half was outside of our own red zone. It was PA and took time to develop.
Situations aren't remotely comparable.

I think you misread my statement. The possession started at the 18.

Not saying they are. But their not as dissimilar as you would make it sound with your statement of "Hint. It wasn't inside our own 10."

Gary Pinkel would always say that if we lost, that he needed to do a better job coaching. No matter what the outcome of the game, the coaches are responsible. The coavhes recruit, practice and coach these players. If we weren't ready, it's a coaching failure. That's not only the right attitude, it's healthy and one of the signs of a winner.
In my opinion, the jury is still out on Odom. He needs to get better.
I hope he does.
