We might be overreacting just a wee bit as well. UK played a truly awful opponent, and our players may well have taken CMU too lightly. Lot of teams got caught sleepwalking this past weekend.

I'm not worried about the game itself, because it was Week one and we won by double digits to a team ranked in the grouping of a TON of p5 schools.

My issue is that unlike our days of the B12 where we played 4 straight easy ones, we dive right into one of the biggest games on the schedule, and I'm not sure its enough time to adjust and improve.

Felt the same way.
The one thing that calmed me down was the drive where we ran a quick offense and were running down the field at will. Seemed to me like Drink decided to make sure he got a TD because he didn't want to play with a close game late where they could lose.
Then back to managing the game to a win, seeing what the players were capable of, and not revealing his cards.
I hope.

This is true, too.

Oklahoma got a scare from Tulane. Iowa State squeaked by Northern Iowa. Oklahoma State was tested by Mo. State.

I'm not sold on my Cats' new look offense just yet. I like that the deep ball was there, but our WR will not get THAT open against Mizz.

Not sure our run game is as good as last year. The wide zone blocking in the run game does not seem to be a great fit just yet. CRods best runs happened on simple downblock schemes where our OL just oblitereated ULM.

I still think we have an advantage on the LOS on both sides of the ball, but not sure it will be the difference. Your guys dialed up some good blitzes and such and were well timed.

Badie looked very good... best I've seen him.

I think the home crowd will be good, and might give us the slim advantage. THe line seems about right. However, the Cats cannot afford to be on the negative side of TOs this game.

I expect a great game, and I seriously think that both our teams might be better than UF right now... so the winner of this game is probably 2nd in the East.

Cheers to a well fought game... and may our teams both emerge from it without serious injury.

Im not giving drink a pass with a bare cupboard excuse. 1 for 11 on 3rd downs. His offensive play calling was horrendous. I thought there was a stretch in the second quarter where the defense was getting stops and we did stuff like counter options on second and 3 that lost 7 yards and let them stay in the game.

If Odumb can claim an "entire rebuild" after what Pinkel left him then Drink can claim 2 entire rebuilds, but he hasn't.

Instead, he's worked his arse off on the recruiting trail and has made MAJOR improvements.

Right. I was under no illusion that we would compete for a trip to Atlanta. This journey will be a bumpy one. Having said that, We shouldn’t place all the blame on Odom because he is who he is. This was all on the admin and how they handled 2015.

Mostly agree.....it's game 1 so we should learn and fix a ton this week from film alone. The LBs need to be more disciplined and the OL needs push people back, not get pushed.

The one big "alignment" problem I see is how close the LBs are to the LOS and when the RB got past the LOS there wasn't anyone there.

I’m hoping Drink was holding back with Cooper to surprise UK this weekend. We didn’t target Chism much at all either.

We can move on from Odom, but his marks on the program are still shining through. So as much as we don't want to talk about the guy, he f*cked us when it came to recruiting and we're now seeing it.

Drink does offense and does it well. He knows how to put up big numbers when he wants to. I imagine he was reserving some things for this upcoming weekend and trying to give UK some things to worry about in the film room.

Drink didn’t sound incredibly confident in his weekly presser. Downplayed the significance of the game several times.

I don’t know, I just don’t get a good feeling about this bunch but certainly hope I’m wrong.

That alignment should make it easier for the LB to fill the "gap." CMU found something when they ran at Aldridge. Did you notice they did it over and over. But maybe that left guard is a hell of a player. Mid majors produce really good OL all the time.

I'm not Wilks, but imagine the plan, was seal the gaps, clog the run lanes, and force CMU into passing against our really good DBs. Probably will be the same plan against KY, but I think the LB play will be better.

No offense, but you were one of if not the biggest Odom cheerleader on this forum. If you say this bunch isn't gonna get it done, then I expect the opposite to happen.

Ok

Hope you’re right, and I’m wrong.

What are you seeing that leads you to believe that? Other than just going by what the opposite of what I said of course.

CMU is no cupcake program and a lot of P5 teams have struggled with them in the past.

2015

Okl St. L 24-13

Syracuse L 30-27 OT

Minn L 21-14 (Quick Lane Bowl)

2016

Okl St. W 30-27

Virg L 49-35

2017

kU W 45-27

2018

UK L 35-20

Mich St. 31-20

*they had a real shite year in 2018 and still played some P5 teams tough*

2019

Miami L 17-12 (The FL one, not the one they play every year that is out of OH)

Aldredge took bad angles in the first half, cleaned it up some as the second half progressed.
He's playing in a new defense with new teammates and coaches. I think his learning curve was high during the game.
Our lines still have me worried, though.

Yea. Maybe we and others are just underestimating how good CMU can be against P5 talent. Clearly they’re very well coached.

But only if the LB stays home and not try to be the hero (see every Coach Kul defense).
