Well there you have it. The competition is over before it ever really had a chance to start.

while I do agree, I'm pretty sure there has been a senior QB captain before that didn't start at QB.

I don't even care. This year will be more of the same from last year. In fact, last year never really ended. The bullshite has been continuously shoved in our faces...
Meh.
Meh.

Killz, are you trying reverse psychology here, or are you truly that pessimistic about the season?
And team captain is voted on by the players, not the coaches, right?
I have no idea how to predict this season. Nothing from 4-8 to 8-4 would surprise me. I would be surprised if it was worse, or better, than that.

If its 8-4 he better beat at least one of Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina...

There was never a competition. Whenever I hear there is an open competition, I take it to mean that the incumbent has the job unless he shites the bed. There was never a true competition for the job IMO.
Having said that, I'm assuming this is voted on by the players and, if so, I will fully support and move forward with it. They would know best who can lead them forward and I hope Franklin does so.

PInkel is insisting that him being named captain doesn't necessarily mean he's the starter. But we all know it's his to lose.

Him saying that is about as stupid as him saying DGB is 2nd on the depth chart.

Do yall only have one team captain or will more be selected?

There's four, but this is the one that rustles.

I take it yall want someone else at QB? Who else is on the roster that is a fan favorite?

Maty Mauk is the backup, but at this point I think the general consensus is "anyone but JF."
I can't say I'm really against James Franklin, but I'm hoping he gets back to the old Frank Tanklin instead of what he seemed to be last year.

Wasn't he coming off injury last year? And with all the bad luck on the O-line last year, I'd have to think that affected him a lot as well. I expect yall will be better on Offense, especially with Josey back, if he's up to speed. I had him on my fantasy team a couple yrs ago. Hope to actually watch him play this year.

Last year was pretty bad overall for the injuries, as I'm sure everyone is aware. That included JF, but a lot of people started turning on him when he wasn't playing as well as he could have been and refused the shot in his arm to help him play through the pain and left us with Corbin Berkstresser out there doing his thing.
I think a lot of the real motivation behind people wanting Mauk is just because it seems really cool to have the high school national record holder for passing yards (or TDs, I forget) throwing the ball to the high school national record holder for receiving yards (or TDs, whatever). Add in the injury stuff and the "weakness" of Franklin sitting out games he potentially could have played and it creates a nice shitstorm.

Hunter a lot of our fans want to see Maty Mauk have a chance. I want the best QB to be running the offense. Franklin's injury last season was worse than they wanted anyone to know. If he's healthy, he's probably the best option. I'd like to see what a healthy James Franklin can do.
Maty Mauk had video game numbers in high school in Ohio. He accounted for more than 22,000 yards of offense, and about 5,000 of that was running. But, he redshirted last year. I'd like to see him get some time in games before being named the starter.
Our other captains were DB EJ Gaines from Kansas City, WR L'Damien Washington from Shreveprot, and LB Andrew Wilson from Kansas City. All seniors.

It's not that we didn't want JF. It's just we wanted a completion. A true one. Not one that lasted on spring practices. Always been fine with Franklin as long as he truly won the job. Just not sure if MM ever really got a chance.

Sorry for being so pessimistic. Nobody likes a debbie downer, but then again nobody like me anyhow...so frick it! Boo hoo hoo.
Seriously though, I truly hope Mizzou wins 8 or 9 games! Hell, if Franklin is the guy who does that then all power to Superman.
I just don't see it happening. I think a lot of people forget parts of last year. Sure Franklin was hurt and he wasn't at optimal performance. But, there was a point when he supposedly wasn't hurt. During that time he admitted to being scared of taking an SEC hit. He actually admitted to being scared. The week before the final game of the season against A&M, doctors insisted that Franklin was fine and ready to play...but he refused to play. He refused. And he stood there on the sideline with a HUGE blinged out Superman necklace, arms crossed, and with a big smile while JFF handed our asses to us for dinner while playing hurt. JFF was playing hurt.
In my opinion, this says something about his football character. He's mentally weak (when related to football). And I don't think you change that in mindset in one year.
Franklin is probably a super nice young man with strong values. But when it comes to football, he doesn't have a winning mentality.
I'd rather Mauk only win 5 games and get very valuable on the job experience then watch a very underwhelming Franklin win 8.
I'm dead serious.
