What the hell is all this hand wringing about competing in the SEC? First of all, when you get past the media hype, the SEC comes down to Alabama, and a couple of really good Florida, Tennessee and LSU years. Besides Bama they are all beatable at any given time. It's just when Mizzou wins, the claim is the opponent is having a "Down" year. And we as Mizzou fans let them get away with that.
Auburn played for a Natty after a shootout with Mizzou. UGA played for a Natty and it was Mizzou who put up the most points on them. Florida doesn't have "down" recruiting years, neither does UT, and Mizzou slaughtered both. But both claim to have talent problems. I call bullshite. When Freeze was buying hookers for top 10 recruits, Mizzou went to Ole Piss and won. Uga outclassed us in 1 game, but I also remember a win at UGA, and close games including a last second TD pass a few years ago.
All coaches must develop talent. What I see from SEC coaches (excluding Saban) is 80% effort to recruit and 20% development. Mizzou is more 50-50. And i'm good with that. Screw the media and fan posts. When the smoke clears, Mizzou is like every other SEC team, dick riding Bamas success.

I'll take the mini vacations in 80° weather with smoke shows all around any time.
Besides, other than Penn state, osu, Wisconsin, and the Michigan's the rest are boring af to go to. We just have state that's unpleasant.

From fans I've talked to, they actually like the chance of escaping the heat for real fall football.

Seems to be a big difference based on the age of fans. The old fans want the B1G. The younger fans like the SEC.

Showing my age here. It just feels like being in the NFC East with Roger Staubach's Cowboys, Gibbs' Redskins, Parcells' Giants and Buddy Ryan Eagles while we are recruiting the Steve Littles and Clyde Duncans of the country with no end in sight.

Old fan checking in on this. I like the conference we are in, and have very little interest in the Big 10. Some people need to relax alittle. We have shown we can competently compete with a lot of the SEC teams. If Ole Miss, Miss State, Scar, Vandy, Kentucky, and now Tenn can hang, so can we. Recruiting needs to pick up some, and we need to hire the right coach if Odom isn't the answer.

I bet we match up better than anyone thinks. I can see it being a Georgia type game where we coulda/shoulda won it.
