I can agree with this. I think expectations were a little high and unrealistic for the first game. Too much is new here. But sloppy play has to be corrected with quickness.

And 1 more thing, then on to next week...If you trust Josh Augusta to carry the ball with WV loaded up on the LOS, then why the hell doesn't he get the ball when they fumbled on the 7 yard line?
Instead they ran Lock off tackle????
A touchdown there changes the complexion of the game.

How many yards did they need on the 7? I think using Augusta for the 1-yard gain was something they decided to try, and may try again - but not often. He said last year he wanted to try that sometime, glad they game him the opportunity.

I'm not saying Augusta should have been first option, but between running Lock off tackle with no lead blocker or 370lbs of Augusta with the guard leading, you've got to believe Augusta gets more yards.

1. WVU is not world beaters, but thy are also a top 35 team in the country.
2. Future looks bright, but the growing pains will suck this year
3. We are just not that talented, WDWD screwed us.
4. Lock is a future first rounder. With most top 25 team rosters, Lock will get the same attention as his Elite 11 brethren Josh Rosen. We give him blame, which can be warranted, but he also is extremely talented. Better athletes around the QB makes them look better. I'm with my buddies watching the game and he mentioned that Harbaugh really wanted the kid, but he was loyal to us. He thinks Lock makes UM playoff contenders under his tutelage this year.
5. I see the potential and will try and look at the positives vs. the negatives. I believe we will be fine in the future.

Like losing to Toledo and now losing to LA Tech?
Your not making me feel better.

Our QB got rattled early and our OL looks bad. Looks like it could be another painfully slow start for Bert at Arkansas.

Very reasonable. I was disappointed, but not going to overreact to the first game. If we don't improve, and get shellacked in 3 games? Then I'll get antsy. This year, I just want to see improvement in every game. Work on things, and get better.

I'm not in panic mode. It was one game. A shitty game sure, but let's see how they react.

Read on a different forum that Moore was targeted 23 times. He caught 8 balls.
Unacceptable if you want to be the #1 guy.

Call me polly positive but a few good things.
Lock threw well after the 2nd Q. No INTs
Black looks like he can hold on to the ball, unlike Moore.
The Dbs looked solid and held on to interceptions.
Pass blocking looked way better than last year and picked up all of wvus blitzes allowing only one sack, i think.
Bad side.
Where the frick was our defensive front? Hey coach Shipp, let's go back to the go for the passer and pickup the run on the way. His idea of stopping the run first didn't work and we had no pressure on their QB. Where were the sacks? That's what we do.
And how about trying to strip the football in multiplayer tackles? Punch the fricking football out. Odom's defense didn't do it last year either. We did it well with Steck. Get back to fundamentals in this please.
Sure the kicking game was not good. Freshman kicker will get better. Thankfully not the difference in the game. Just hit all of the next week.
Its better to lose early and this was not indiana. We can recover but our defense needs to "do what we do".

I thought your pass blocking was pretty darn solid. WVU brought pressure from unusual areas but you kept picking them up.

Some notes everyone was saying the pass blocking was good but it was horrible the 1st Qtr and got better as the game progressed. This is a positive as it will take time for a new OL to gel. Someone earlier said Moore was targeted 23 times..WTF..then Lock said after game they were targeting the more inexperienced DB on that side. I would NEVER and I mean NEVER target Moore 23 times in a game. 8 completions on 23 targets is a killer and we have to spread the ball around. I was disheartened by how many yards after contact the WVU RB's got, tackling has been a strength over the years. Also not a fan of the not aggressive DL. Read and react makes you think too much, prefer to let them play loose.

Forgot to add that series after the fumble inside was a key moment of the game and a head scratcher. If you are going to run QB zone read there why not put Zanders in then, instead of in the middle of a drive when Lock is on a roll?

I honestly wish he was gone. Everyone else connected to the fiasco has been ousted.
Mizzou can win three games with or without him and I'd prefer the latter.

That last series where I think we threw 3 straight balls to him in the end zone and winded up with nothing.
Microcosm of the day.

That is a big concern going forward. Your DL looked shockingly passive the entire game and I'm not used to seeing that.

That falls directly on BO for allowing a change in DL concept. Why mess with something that was working?

Can't agree more. BO and Cross need to get with Shipp on this. This was NOT the Mizzou defense I've come to expect. Unacceptable. We allowed WAY too much by being passive on D.

We managed to escape thankfully with a win. When Mizzou won their first East title it seemed like every win was bowling shoes ugly.
Keep building the team up and you will be back in position to win ugly games again. Because while there are ugly games, there is no such thing as an ugly win.
