Really hope Martinez is given a legitimate shot at a starter's spot this year. I know he's starting in some spring training. Would have liked to have seen Garcia come back strong to have a lefty starter, but I'm gonna bet his year is done. So many damn young arms, shouldn't skip a beat.

Opening day can't get here fast enough.

I'm excited too.

Before Garcia got hurt they were giving Martinez the Rosenthal treatment, giving him the starting spot in game 1 of spring training even though it was obvious he was going to the pen. Now maybe he has a legit chance to start, but he'll have to make it impossible for them to deny him.

It's near criminal that Martinez is not a lock for the rotation, no other organization would put an A+ premier starting prospect in the bullpen.

I hate the Perralta signing, the guy has hit under .260 3 out of the last 4 full seasons. Including a .239 season in '11. 50+ million, no thanks.

I even wish Seigrist was a candidate for the rotation, think we really missed having a lefty in the rotation, helps the other pitchers too.

He's a starting prospect, a nice loose delivery, love him as a starter. We have Choate locked up as the specialist, Freeman throws heat, and we have a ton of other good lefties that can be the second bullpen lefty.

Will be interesting to see how things play out.

Will Jay be traded if Bourjos takes over?

How will they get enough time for Craig, Adams, and Taveras?

What happens if Piscotty or Grichuk are also ready late in the season and how will that effect '15?

Lynn was the other one I was forgetting that was in the rotation that I guess will figure into the equation or competition. Not a huge fan of Lynn as a starter personally. I hope starting Martinez is more than lip service. I like his arm and I like his fire.

Hate putting out the money, but I'm not sure what else was out there that they had a reasonable shot at. The optimist in me says it can only be equal to last year because if it's worse, you just put Kozma back in. What about the Cuban defector, Diaz? Any chance of signing him? Any chance he's good enough to jump right into the lineup?

What are your thoughts on Lyons? Another lefty that started 9 games. I thought he showed glimpses and wouldn't mind giving him some spot starts. Is he healthy? I don't even know.

Me neither. My dad was telling me that even Matheny said that he has to make sure that little things like room service the night before a start don't go bad or it screws with his head the next day when he pitches. That's pathetic.

Uhhhh...if true, that is embarrassing. Don't let that get out on the MSB.

Or perhaps for a good laugh we should post it on the MSB!

I'm guessing Lynn is pretty locked up in the rotation.

But wish he was a bullpen guy. Big belly guy, rubberish arm, high strikeout rate. Wish he was in the pen. If there wasn't the need for a starter in '12, he would still be there, I'd guess.

His bat is apparently ready, and can not be any worse than Kozma's.

I think now that the Yankees are out of the running the Cards have a better shot, but where do you put him? Could envision him as a utility infielder for a year or two, but we have Ellis signed. Would have been risky to go all offseason without addressing SS in hopes of outbidding everyone for Diaz, but now I wish they would have waited.

Lyons has that nasty slider, doesn't seem like anything besides a fill in starter or 5th guy, but like him in the pen. There is Cooney and a few others in addition to Freeman that could pitch in the pen.

Agreed.

No. They couldn't just do nothing, but if they get him now, and assuming he's as good as billed, I say start him. Use Perralta as the utility guy.

Freeman is ready. Cooney might be a year away or late this season. I'd bet he starts in Memphis. Damn there are so many young arms even after the wave that is now coming up.

+1

Me too man, me too.

Im excited to see what Tavares can do in the bigs this season to go along with all these young power arms.

Look at that swing. Oh my, I have a feeling he is going to terrorize some NL pitching this year.

I know Rosenthal is going to close, but he still wants to start and would probably be damn good. Depends on how Motte comes back as well. Martinez and Rosie are both electric. I know it kind of stinks about Garcia, but with our prospects we might be better off (kind of crazy idea). Should be fun though, cards have a lot of decisions to make.

How are the Cards looking this year? I haven't been able to keep up with MLB like I use too.

Should be a 95 win team.

Loads of young power arms in pen and rotation.

Tavares and Wong are the two young prospects stepping up into a big role on the club with loss of Beltran and the move of Carpenter from 2B to 3B.

I think the biggest question marks will be those two along with Adams ability to play everyday if need be at first. Pitching should be stout, possibly best in the Bigs.

Still got Wainwright? I'm still pissed about that trade.

Waino is a stud. And seems to be a quality individual. Very glad he's a Cardinal.

Glad to hear it. I wish we could have kept him but Mazzoni wasn't known for working with rookies.

Where does he play?

I don't see how Taveras, Craig, and Adams can all get regular at bats.

Our rotation this year should be sick. I'm gonna try to get to Atlanta when the Cards play there.

Both him and Wong. Tavares more so but Wong HAS to be able to get the ball out of the infield.

Im not convinced that Adams can play everyday. He seemed to be exposed last year when forced to play everyday.

If I had to take a shot in the dark I would think we will see Tavares in RF and Craig at 1B quite a bit this year.
