I think Lynn is arbitration eligible at the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade him around the trading deadline. Teams in the hunt may be willing to overpay for him at that time and it could give us a chance to load up on positions of need or even draft picks. I think we lose value with Lynn if we don't trade him by then. He's probably going to command a somewhat hefty sum in arbitration compared to what we already have committed at lower numbers(unless I'm wrong about him being eligible).

It's way early. I get that. And I'm not sure I buy into it with all the arms we have. BUT would you consider packaging Lynn and maybe another young arm for Scherzer to lock down a starting rotation in the playoffs? We have an abundance of pitching so Scherzer isn't a NEED. But Scherzer may be the kind of starter you need in the playoffs. Even though we're getting a pitcher back, it would free up some of the log jam.

Agree and would be very surprised if Lynn is still a Cardinal this time next year.

The one thing I don't know for sure is if we'd trade an arm while contending for the playoffs. We'd get more for him at the deadline than in the offseason, but it might be the offseason before he's unloaded to avoid his arbitration raise, like Freese.

I don't know, but you raise a good point, and maybe this will be how we unload Lynn before the offseason.

With Waino as the only veteran 1-2 type pitcher, maybe we end up trying to add a legitimate veteran 1-2 starter at the deadline.

Is anyone else not feeling it with Miller?

I don't think he's the ace type guy that he was advertised to be coming up in the minors.

He had 15 wins last year, yeah yeah, but he was on a great team, and he was pitching very poorly at the end of the year.

His spring has been bad, over 5 era, hasn't pitched more than 5 innings.

He looks like he has to go max effort all the time. His fastball isn't elite, it's lower 90s for the most part and his secondary stuff isn't even close to elite.

I feel like he was pretty close to his ceiling in high school when he was drafted, a fireballer that was overpowering kids, and now he's just flattening out and it's becoming evident he's just okay, not great.

I still feel like he's top shelf. He's only 23. That ceiling is way up there for him.

I think he's gotten better as he's come along. I don't expect him to win 25 games this season, but he should show improvement. Same with all the young guys.

The only starter I believe we've seen hit his ceiling is Lynn.

I'm not feeling it yet. I think he'll have a long and serviceable career, but I'm not feeling "ace" type material yet. The fact Matheny sat him in post season should tell ya something too.

Go be a douche in your own thread. Or, keep it up here. Either way will work for me.

I don't think being 23 is that relevant with Shelby. I think he's a guy who was highly developed as a high schooler and doesn't have a lot of room for growth.

Watching him pitch is taxing, it looks like he's exerting way more effort than other guys. I'm going on record to say I think he'll be a disappointment, maybe not totally evident this year, but within a couple years it will be. Hopefully I'm wrong and he's outstanding this year.

I've had more time to think about your offer, and I'm willing to up the ante. My proposal is the Royals will win more games than the Cardinals this season. Considering we won 86 games last season we will obliterate that mark this season, and I felt your offer assured me of victory so now both of us have a chance to win. As for the terms I'm happy with a Cardinals /Royals sig bet. Consider my offer accepted!

Let's make a Cardinals/Royals sig bet. I bet you any sig pic I design that the Royals don't reach 85 wins. If I win, you must keep the sig pic that I design for you for the duration of football season.

Do you agree to these terms?

That was the case later in the season.

Early on last year he was in a groove. I'm almost positive he didn't pitch in Oct because he was spent. Now, I have no idea why the brass havent ever explain why he was even on the roster, but whatever.

I think he'll be pretty damn good, an ace, no idea. Aces are a rarity. A solid two, maybe a three.

Jay is a bum. Probably my most hated player next to Kozma last year. Those were the top 2 in my doghouse in 2013.

ST - What's your idea of disappointment? If he's a solid #2 or #3 in the rotation type of guy, would you consider that a disappointment? Just trying to get an idea if we're talking the same expectations.

Wong was 2 for 3 today in the leadoff spot. I suspect Carpenter will still hit leadoff and they wanted to see how Wong handles it for Carpenter's days off.

So did the Diaz kid play? I see he's 3 for 5 on the spring training. This is the Cuban they signed right? Or did my brain go blank?

Yes, two or three hits in his first game with the club, then optioned to Springfield.
