student sections in the P5? And it wasn't just this game. I don't get it. And my daughter goes to Mizzou but doesn't go to games. She says no one cares about going. And young guns, I'm not necessarily blasting students with this.

What has the school done to create such a disconnect between the students and it's sports programs. Whether it's basketball, football, baseball...doesn't matter. And, what can the school do to make that connection again? And yes, I know winning helps, but lots of schools still support even if they're not playing for a natty.

The nubs sellout but have a tiny student section. Wasn't a few years ago that the NCAA was concerned about diminished student attendance, and schools only focusing on fans and boosters.

I'm in my junior year here at Mizzou. I feel like I'm the only one here who gives a frick about our football program.

Also, I'm following Spahgettios and reeedus in removing the Mizzou logo next to my username.

Props to you my friend. Wish there were more like you. My daughter literally went to more baseball games than football last year. Granted, there are more games/opportunities and she probably likes the sport more in general but there isn't anything like the atmosphere of a college football game when the students are into it.

When I went to Mizzou from 1977-81 they averaged between 70-75 thousand fans a game and loaded up their non conference with bluebloods and beat their share of them.

I went 05-09, probably spoiled because those were some of the best Mizzou teams ever.

It comes down to winning, when you get arse blasted in two straight road games people find something better to do on a Saturday.

Students are band wagon as well, plus the home slate was weak this year.

Start winning and they will come.

Stop demonizing the greek system and being so strict about underage drinking.

Those 2 things, especially in combination, equal good, and full student sections.

They eliminated "group seating" for students because the most timely and organized (getting the best seats) were all fraternities and sororities, and naturally others complained about it. It happened either at the end of my undergrad career, or just after, can't remember which.

The impact the protest had on attendance is very apparent. Plenty of people have openly said they are done supporting the team until the instigators and their associates are gone, both students and alums That is a substantial amount of people.

Also, personal theory, this is part of being in the SEC, particularly the east. We have no history/motivation with these teams. Missouri kids don't go to these other schools, so students no longer have friends to come up/talk shite to about games.

Even with teams that no one gives a shite about like Iowa State, there was the Telephone Trophy to play for. All the aspects of travel of course.

Its also a culture thing. Not sure how to change that besides winning, but for some reason, people just don't want to watch games anymore.

I graduated recently and kids didn't give a damn about the teams if they aren't good. And they'd also rather go drink at the bars and watch instead of go to the hot/cold game with no alcohol for sale.

I remember when the kansas band was on the sidelines at halftime.

The greeks threw their liquor bottles and managed to hit one girl in the head.

I can only assume they were angry they couldn't gang rape her like they normally do with women.

Ugh, millennials.

Remember when they stormed the court when Mizzou beat Virginia? How embarrassing. Mizzou didn't even storm the court when they went undefeated in the Big 8.

Maybe we need to reduce the student section by 50%. When I went there a million years ago, the student sections were packed. We would squeeze everybody in who wanted to sit with us. The protest really devastated the attendance. Maybe it's time to have some really great pricing on the empty seats or a "knot hole" gang program, where at half time, anybody can get in for $5 and sit anywhere.

What, we should be easy on greeks?

They are the rapist cancer. We need to eliminate the entire greek system ASAP.

It's not a student section problem, it's a mentally weak minded fan base who has experienced so many let downs causing many to abandon all Missouri teams. Our volleyball team is 8-0, and receiving no publicity whatsoever. The Browns have a much better outlook heading into the future, and that is what we deserve for wanting "True sons" as coaches. Have we ever had a successful true son coach at Mizzou? What the frick is a true son anyway have to do with being a good coach? Our donors are shite, all of our programs are shite (except volleyball, and they will succumb to the Mizzou way soon enough) True Sons killed the basketball program, the football program, and the baseball program

as a white privileged male, I don't find myself comfortable going to an event and supporting a team that thinks I'm racist ... solely based on my race and gender.

frick 'em.

That is just statistically not true. Whether you like it or not, Greek systems (especially at mizzou), continually show results in substantially better grade averages, involvement in campus organizations, among other accolades.

Most, if not all, of the greek organizations have taken part in Green Dot certification (sexual violence prevention training). There is absolutely no statistical evidence that would support your claim that the greek system is a "rape center"...aside from stigmas and stereotypes that are often the result of false prognostications. (especially the oft cited study regarding "rape myth" attitudes, which of course, doesn't actually equate to sexual assault statistics)

I'm not sure why you have the opinion that you do, but the statistics do not support your claims.

Also ironically, there ARE statistics that suggest athletes commit sexual violence at substantially higher rates than average.
