Blough set the single game Purdue passing yards tonight.

Remember, Blough is the noodle armed QB that can run.

Purdue was 0-2.

Purdue lost to Eastern fricking Michigan.

Odom is in his 3rd year as head coach and is a defensive guy...yet still gets lit up constantly.

Is he a defensive coach? What coverage did we play all night? How does the TE literally get 10 yards open 4 times? How do you lose track of Moore?

I do think Reedus is right. I think this will be the worst it gets (comparatively - I expect to lose to Georgia and Bama so if we get blown out there we get blown out). I think Brohm has Odom’s number on defense.

I do think Bentley could easily give us fits. They have some good WRs there at SC, too. Florida doesn’t have a QB and I think UK’s QB is still a question mark. So I think the season could still be ok. I just don’t see a way for us to get to 10 wins. I’d say 7 or 8 is likely.

The next 4 games will be rough as they all have good offenses. After Memphis the quality of the offenses drops off a lot.

Primarily Cover 3, which based on what Purdue has done offensively under Brohm was the right call. Brohm scrapped their offense and put it all on Blough's arm in an effort to salvage their season. It almost worked. If you would have told me pre game that Blough would have 55 passing attempts I would have told to you pass it on the left hand side.

Brohm really went after two players in his game plan: Sparks and Hilton.

Sparks allowed 9 receptions and 119 receiving yds. He tallied 10 solo tackles in the process but several of those throws would have ended drives.

Hopkins and Herdeman combined for 8 receptions and 172 receiving yds at TE. That is primarily on the SS given the concepts Purdue ran last night. Hilton did a poor job of reading pass all night long and was supposed to have the slot/TE on multiple throws. I didn't think Purdue was doing a very good job of selling the run yet Hilton rushed off his spot to spill the play. He simply doesn't have the recovery speed to misread plays and they aren't asking him to do anything exotic. He lacks football smarts. The play where the ball went off his helmet to the TE was ignorant. It was a two deep look and Garrett had inside position on the throw and Hilton was still late getting to the seam. He made zero play on the ball and went for a big hit. He could have been booted for targeting which may not have been a bad thing.

Damn good analysis. As Reedus has said, I think this is the worst we'll see.

Which is consistent with BO. They spend the 1st few games literally learning how to play, then bottom out and start back up. (What do they actually do in practice?) Though consistent, this methodology sucks. Without the parade of walking dead to backload this years schedule, I see 7 wins and a mid grade bowl loss. What would we be seeing WITHOUT Lock?

In a word: Meh.

Not bad if we are learning how to play and are still 3-0

How can you predict a bowl loss without even knowing who we'd play! LOL

Hilton is garbage. He gotta go. Nothing will be lost sitting his miserable arse against Jawga. Misplaced loyalty is a killer.

I honestly don't know why they ever pulled Hilton off of offense.

He was making plays out of the slot when we were desperate for playmakers.

Hilton caught 9 balls and played primarily on 3rd and long situations because he couldn't be trusted to block his position. His lack of recovery speed on defense showed as a lack of explosion and separation coming out of breaks vs safeties and slot corners. He certainly wouldn't take snaps away from Johnson or Floyd if healthy.

The hope was to get him playing smart and being in the right spot. The only thing he has shown an ability to do is celebrate like a jackass for making one play while blowing his assignment on a majority of his other snaps. The only way to cover him up is with consistent pressure with some combination of the front 7.

Looking at the night another way is more telling to me. Blough had a 205 lb linebacker covering the strong side of his formation for the first 30 minutes of the game AND NEVER ATTACKED HIM. Not running or throwing. He knew his best chance of beating the zone was taking it right at Hilton. Perkins coincidently had a higher grade in his half of play than Lee in the second. He would be my guy at SS and I am not sure what it will take to make a move. They have plenty of tape from last night showing Hilton not getting the job done.

Exactly 808. It's not that we aren't going to have our issues against the pass but I don't think it will be as abysmal, as in so many yards/TD's by a nothing QB.

On the sally sunshine side, if they make the correct call on nate brown PI at:32 left we have the ball at the 17 with first down. No chance they score as time would have run out. Take away 34 pas yards and bloughs rush. Result? 40-30 assuming we don’t score at the half which we prob could have.

Now remove the helmet catch and its 74 less yards. Maybe no td there as it would have been 3rd down deep in their territory. That takes it down to 450 pass yards but he really only threw 2 bad passes. blough was thowing darts. Our secondary def sucked.

A completely lucky catch and one of the many completely bullshite non calls and the score is very different.

We will have a chance with usce and kentucky because the refs are sec refs. We could still end up 10-2.

You are right. College football is week to week and matchups/schemes etc. it's quite possible that this performance was just a blip on the radar and we'll be much better moving forward. It's also possible that we have more negative ebbs in performance also. Drew has a bad game, the step forward we took with the running game doesn't last etc.

Are we beating Georgia or Bama? No, highly unlikely but I still think this team's ceiling is relatively high. If that was our clunker on defense and we still won then we are in good shape.

Seriously??? So if any Mizzou fan see's any upside to any game we're supposed to be ridiculed? Damn you sound like the caricature Mizzou fan.

Our DBs lost a lot of 1 on 1 situations but we still won. Blough has a good arm and made MANY career tight window throws when our DBs were actually in position.

Refs sucked; I saw 2 facemask, at least 2 horse collars and 3 PI calls missed.....a lot on different drives that stalled.

Yeah there's a ton of shite to clean-up but it's nice to bitch while getting a road W.

Anyone know what happened to Crockett after the 1st quarter?

If being a sunshine pumper means I take joy in winning on the road no matter how we did it, then lather up with SPF 50 when you come by my place.

That said, I don't think I've ever said, "You know, if we could have held them to 400 yards passing, we would have won by 3 TDs."

But to quote Journey, "Any way you want it, that's the way you need it. Any way you want it..."

We didn't make any effective adjustments but Purdue had a very good running game heading into this game and a terrible passing offense.

The D probably spent all week focusing on taking away the run and was completely flabbergasted at PU throwing it non-stop.

They get one free pass due to being caught off guard and first road game by a team who hasn't been the big favorite in several years.

Time to adjust and move on.

I agree with that. I just don't think we'll give up 600 yards passing again, even to teams with better QB's and WR's. There will surely be other struggles along the way but I don't think any as drastic as what we just saw.

Refs didn't give up 576 passing yards.

The DBs weren't even on the TV screen on several receptions.

Crockett was outplayed by faster backs. I think he may have put on some "bad weight" while injured.
