Holy shite. Ron Rivera emailed Dave some nice words on Wilks? Stop the freaking presses.

It was a little higher praise than nice words, but whatever.

Former #Mizzou DE Markus Golden on new DC Steve Wilks, who was his head coach in Arizona in 2018: "I played with him for a year. He's a great, hard working guy. He will help us right away and the players will love playing for him!I hope we can get him. He's a good coach."

Note that Wilks name appeared nowhere in the FootballScoop article.

This is interesting: Drink comes in, sets up his offensive staff, leaves much of the defensive staff in place for continuity and evaluation. One year later, cleans out the old D staff and brings in a pro style coach. Unknown recruiting chops, but Drink seems to handle that side of things fine for now.

Will this work? Have no idea, but it's certainly different from the usual college retreads or Saban analysts. We are now completely separated from the Pinkle/Odom coaching line.

Illinois just had one too. But that didn't work out well for them.

I am for that! Got to make the change to fit in the real college football world. It will be a much brighter future for Mizzou football.

They had one as the head guy. We’ve already got that.

Wilks just needs to focus on the defense and wrangling some goons

FWIW hearing Chris Achuff (currently at Syracuse and formerly Arizona cardinals) is being considered for D line coach

Go get one of the position coaches at U of Cincinnati as our d-line coach. Their defense was legit last year.(ask Georgia) ND has already stole their defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.

Jeez, all the guy does is the DL. He's like a black coach Kul. Solid hire.

Drink must have a thing for NFL assistants on the downward slope of their careers.

He hired 2 this week.

NFL coaches at least know what to look for at the college level. Seeing the players at the NFL level will help Mizzou at the college level. Huge difference. Good to great hire!

The guy coached Khalil Mack to the pro bowl in 2 different positions in the same year. When he sits in a living room and says your son could be the next Khalil Mack, you listen.

I like these hires, though not because I have any idea if they're good or not. But they tell me much of what Drinkwitz wants.

1 - He does not care about winning the press conference. These hires were swift, quiet, and you heard nothing until the lawyers had finished their work. As opposed to, say, LSU perhaps?

2 - He wants an aggressive, high speed pro style defense. Because college defenses have been so effective the last few years y'know . . .

3 - He wants to be a hands off executive. There will be no over the shoulder orders. Wilks will get the keys to the machine, and the best players they can get. Scheme and game calls are his alone. All Drink will care about is results.

I will also hold nothing against any time worked for the idiot Bidwell family,
