They are hiring Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator.

Pete Thamel thinks it's a great hire.

Not to be confused with Steve Wilkos.

Final candidates were Gibbs, Haley and Wilks.
May explain Haley’s departure.

Well. I hope he’s better in college than he’s been in the NFL.

He's been a one year and done most of his coaching career..

No sure why anyone expects that to change now

I dunno why Drink would hire him if that’s the case. I’d rather have continuity than a DC carousel.

It wasn't on him to leave his last 4 jobs and he says that he is looking for a stable job.

If the work history Literalist posted is accurate, I am not seeing the same issues. Most of his moves were: same position, better program; or better position.

Since 2005: 3 years at Chicago, 3 years at San Diego, 6 years at Carolina, got 1 year as head coach at Arizona. Assuming he got fired from that, he got 1 year as a DC and then a year off.

Never heard of the guy before, but I'd bet most coaches have a resume that looks like constant moving. I do wish he had been in college coaching more recently.

Maybe the NFL experience is what recruits want to hear. Plus (I'm gonna say it), he's AA, so the balance is maintained.

We just got a former NFL HC as our DC.

That’s a pretty impressive pull anyway you slice it

Seems like a decent hire, he was an NFL HC just a few years ago and was fired after only 1 season (which directly led to the Cardinals getting the #1 pick and Kyler Murray). Drink seemed to not rush this process at all, and if Drink thinks he's the best man for the job we have no reason to doubt him

So Rivera hired him at Chicago, then again at San Diego, then again at Carolina. He then became a HC for one year. Rivera then tried to hire him again.

I don't watch the NFL. But if you like this coach Rivera, suddenly the last 15 years looks like consistent employment with a coach who likes him.

Looks like he works with dbs, which is important given the upgrade in recruiting in the secondary. Now who gets hired for the DL? Kiffen?

Hopefully the addition of Wilks can net us Xavier Nwankpa for 2022. As well as Pride and Purdy.

Swiped from Tiger Board...

Ron Rivera on Wilks: "Steve is one of the best teachers & communicators that I have ever worked with. He is a tremendous leader of men and a genuinely good man. Missouri got an excellent coach."

That's from an email from Rivera to Dave Matter just now which he shared in his chat, for those of you who think Dave doesn't get any stories.
