During my childhood in southern Missouri all soft drinks were “Coke’s”

“I want a coke”
“What kind of coke do you want?”
“Hmmm, Dr.Pepper”

If you wanted a Coca Cola then you asked for it

Northern Missouri it was pop mostly

Moving to Texas it was a big shock to call it “soda water”

So what’s prevalent nowadays?

Still the same. State is divided.

Don't buy it. It's soda. It's always been soda

When I was younger my aunt in Kansas City mentioned ‘pop’ and I didn’t know what she was talking about. And I’ve never heard of anyone call it coke either, the frick?

I came to Mizzou from the north. One afternoon, one of my first friends asked if I wanted a soda. I replied, yes, I haven't had one in years, where can we get one?

He took me to a cafeteria and we then stood in front of a pop vending machine and he asked what kind I wanted.

I was completely puzzled...first I'd ever heard of pop being called soda.

It's still the same divided state (in so many ways).

I grew up in KC, now live in STL, have family in both cities and a daughter in Springfield.

Growing up in KC, we'd go out for "a coke". But I'd order a 7-Up. We would take the "pop" bottles back to the grocery store.

In STL, it's always been Soda. Everything is a soda. My wife would be in KC and order "a white soda", and be shocked at getting a Club Soda.

As usual, those weirdo's over in St. Louis differ from the rest of Missouri.

It's pop in western/northern Missouri.

I call it Coke or Soda. I don't ever hear people use pop.
