Keeping Walter's and not Hargreaves? Well there's Strike 1.

Then what is he seeing in the db play to keep those guys? Especially the safety play?

Maybe the top 10 pass defense despite a terrible offensive swoon and zero pass rush?

I have no idea why Walters takes the shite he does around here. He did a great job last year.

So I 'm a bit confused on a couple of fronts

1.. Did Walters call the defensive plays last year? Some had said it was Odom

2. Will Walters be the DC or Safeties coach?

Because his position group routinely gave up big plays or committed penalties in obvious passing situations. He did little to disguise what he was doing and did little with the safeties post snap to adjust.

I suspect this is more to do with Crootin' and stability than anything else for now. Look for changes when Drink has more time to evaluate. He keeps telling folks what's important and what's urgent are not always the same things.

You honestly were ok with the safety play in passing situations? I honestly thought that was the weakest group with the linebackers being the best.

DE was way worse. There were a lot of situations where a safety, usually Bledsoe was 1 on 1 against the best receiver

Because the DC refused to shift in and out of man coverages post motion. Florida didn't have a completed pass requiring the QB the hold the ball more than 3 seconds. The average time to throw the ball in that game was 2.6 seconds. Lawrence Taylor and Derek Thomas would have trouble getting to the QB in that kind of time, especially vs the splits most teams use.

More of the same vs Tennessee

Did the defense have someone that would have been better back there?

That’s one of the big differences between Mizzou and the top of the conference. LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Georgia have depth.

That's not enough! We can't match up with SEC teams with only 3 assistants on staff! We need to complete the staff now. What is the problem? Why don't we have a full staff? What about the recruits? Come on Drink!

Or you could have an auto check out of man coverage when the formation strength shifts due to motion creating unfavorable matchups on your 4th best cover option on the seam. They could have rolled to a two high or quarters package on multiple occasions and forced a three and out by keeping plays in front. Instead, Walters let his safeties get beat like a hard on.

Or you could develop a pass rush. Get some hits on the QB. Even if he completes a few, those hits start to take a toll on a QB’s accuracy.

If Drink gets the offense going the pass defense will take a step back next season. Teams will have to throw more to keep up.

Lol. When the ball is out in 2.5 seconds the pass rush is never going to get home.
