I see it as Mizzou hired a blue blood OC. Not a G5 guy. Something even Pinkel could not attract. In this cycle, Kiffin was the only hire that 90% of fans would like. But the truth is, we don't know shite. The Pitt OC looks good because his Freshman QB was terrific, the Michigan OC looks average because his Freshman QB was average. It was all luck and circumstance. Zollers development will tell us how good this hire was.

That is truth. The right QB covers a multitude of sins.

When is the last time we hired an OC or DC from a P4 level school? My memory isn't great but I can't recall one in at least the last 20+ years. Yes, we have hired people who had that P4 experience but they were not at P4 schools at the time got them (thinking Dooley).

Derek Dooley was Tennessee's Head Coach but had a stint as WR coach with the Cowboys before joining Odom's staff.

You would have thought we were competitive in college landscape up through around 1980.

Yes, we did not go with an "innovative" G5 guy and hope for the best. It's good we did not have to take that swing.

Moore looked good at San Jose St. or wherever he came from. Had a good QB and looked "innovative". Gator fans would likely tell a similar story about the coach they just canned this season.

All that "innovative" stuff that works in the G5 conferences and Big 12 often does not work so well against SEC-level defenses. And what the coach does then, when SEC defenses shut down what you want to do, determines what kind of coach you have.
Moore did not have answers.

Kirby Moore will have a top 25 offense this year at WSU. I think the QB and Ole Eli was holding him back.

Moore was OC for 1 season at Fresno State 2022. HC Tedford really called the offense. That wasn't a strike against Moore, Tedford always ran the offense.

So really Moore came to Mizzou with no real OC experience.

The Malzhan offense was awesome when he had Nick Marshall to execute it. Was all downhill after Marshall left. Gus held on at Auburn for many years though.
