I don't wonder, his QB made mistakes on the game winning drive in 2023 against top 10 LSU and UGA. Shrader came up 2 yards short on a TD run vs #1 UGA in 2022. By the time Mizzou dominated Tennessee and Florida, they had dropped out of the top 10.
There is also the fact that Ole Miss played in the SEC West. The West had more teams with inflated rankings because of their brand, while the East only had UGA. Lane had more opportunity to beat "top 10" teams early in the season that never belonged in the top 10.
CFP appearances is the only important stat because it means you coached a top 4 team in the SEC or Big 10.

I think they have played a similar amount of top10 games. Maybe Lane has 1 or 2 more. Cant remember.

Kiffin has been clearly a step up.
Kiffin won his first road game versus a top team.
On Saturday.
If you were an Ole Miss fan, you’d be complaining about that.

My point is your QB throwing 2 terrible interceptions or your rb getting chased down at the 2 yard line, isnt a true reflection of whether a coach is a better or worse coach than another coach.

and that is still measurably better than Drink.

Sure it does.

Of course it is.
Here’s his top 10 wins:
2020-21 Indiana - Covid season
2022-23 Kentucky (finished the season 7-5 and unranked, lost a game winning TD to penalty, fumbled the next play for Ole Miss to seal their 22-19 win)
2022-23 Penn State (finished the season 13th, Penn States best win was against #24 Iowa at home)
2024 LSU (LSU ended the season 9-4 and unranked)
2024 Georgia at home - good win
2025 LSU (LSU will end the season unranked)
2025 OU - good win
You’ll notice his first top 10 win in conference was last year. He’s been a head coach 13 years.

Yup, all things Drink has not yet achieved.

Yes. If you’re a message board person and not a real world person, then differentiators like this are super important.

Do you think someone has made the argument Kiffin is a vastly better coach?

OU might end the regular season unranked. They have Mizzou and LSU at home and Bama and Tenn on the road. I could see a scenario where OU goes 0-4, 1-3, or 2-2.
2-2 and they end the regular season unranked. Their best wins are against #21 Michigan and Auburn. Michigan’s best win is an against Nebraska.

The betting odds on one book have him going to Florida at -105

Cool ... if he goes, first calls:
- Sumrall (probably goes to Auburn if they dump Freeze)
- Leipold
- Dillingham
Sumrall @ $3 MIL/year, Leipold and Dillingham around $6 MIL/year ... all 3 take the call and probably 2 of the 3 take the job (Sumrall might not want to touch the Auburn dumpster fire)
But if he goes, we probably get James Franklin and Mizzou Football goes back to the Odumb days ...

If we hire James Franklin, I'm out. That's one motherfricker I've never liked and never will. It would be a huge white flag from the AD and a signal Mizzou just don't GAF, and I'll simply follow suit and find a new hobby.

Agreed. If we go this route, we should Quantrill raid the AD's office ...

You guys are so wrong.
1st. Franklin had name recognition, donors get behind that.
2nd. Franklin can recruit. You don't want a no name coach at Mizzou trying to recruit top 20 classes. Drink is an anomaly, don't think for a second it would be easy to repeat. We've gotten used to 5-6 4 stars and a 5 star sprinkled in.
3rd. Franklin is the original guy who built Vanderbilt. He knows what he's doing. He's been to the CFP.
Mizzou is now bigger than a G5 guy trying to learn what the big boys do. If Drink leaves, we need someone who knows right where to pickup. We really haven't won anything yet, in fact, we've only had 2 good seasons, so it would be real easy to slide back to irrelevance.

No thanks. The dude is not respected.

No respected by whom? Parents and recruits like him. He was just in the CFP. PSU raised 700 million for their facilities upgrade. Seems like he's respected just fine.
Fans are going to be fans, but for our program, Franklin keeps us from sliding backwards.

No, sorry. James Franklin will NOT be a good hire here. He's a snake.
