Of course he can. He has fixed worse defenses before (see memphis).

The question is why hasn't he yet? He seems to REALLY want the new scheme to work.

He obviously has the ability to fix the defense. But he will have to do it with his players.

Does he have the ability to get those players? IDK.

Well hopefully he doesn't waste another season trying to get the new scheme to work.

Odom will make it through this season with no problem! For anyone to think that he would be fired in the middle of his 2nd season is asinine! No new coach would ever come here with that kind of leadership.
Now, if he wins only 1 game this year, I'd say he might not get a 3rd chance, but most coaches get 4 years to turn a program around. I realize Sterk didn't hire him, but even he is not that stupid to fire a HC in midstream!

Odom won't get fired mid-season.

He better get to .500 though because I don't know that Sterk will give him to year 4. Like you said, he wasn't a Sterk hire so all of the "no one will come here if a coach isn't given a chance" rationale is out the window.

I agree he needs to be 6-6 or better, but I don't think even Sterk will fire him before the end of year 4, providing he's showing improvement within the program. Now if he starts going backwards, all bets are off!

What he wanted to say was "I don't give a damn who you're playing that's a shitload of yards & points."

All told, Missouri played nine true freshmen and 13 February signees on Saturday. Of the defensive signees that were healthy, all but Terry Petry and Caleb Sampson saw the field. “How much help we needed, I think,” Cross said. “In the secondary, thank goodness some of these guys have come along.”

I think if he doesn't make a bowl, he'll be fired. I would have thought that was crazy not too long ago, but our fan support is straight garbage right now. Some of that is not BO's fault, but some is.

BO has to start getting some asses in the seats if he wants to keep his job. The only way he does that is win.

It's my guess that Barry will get another year no matter our record.

But as a long suffering Mizzou alum, I'm again disappointed that we're holding our breaths, hoping we can win half our fricking games...and saying if this and if that...we might have a decent team in 2019.

To me, a 6-6 season, even with a trip to the Bob's Used Car Bowl isn't one damned bit satisfying.

Sorry for the grouch, but the last couple of years of Mizzou sports makes me wonder if there's balm in Gilead.

I agree. If there's a question of whether or not he should get a third year at the end of the season, next year will likely be a formality.

If we are 6-6, he'll probably get two more years and then we will be chumming the waters for a legit SEC coach.

Depends what the 6-6 looks like. Do we get slaughtered in the losses? Does the defense suck all year? Or do we lose several close games and look like a team that's improving?

Has to be some context here. BO has to get buy in from his guys. He's playing a lot of young players that he recruited at this point. Not all, but a lot. These are guys that believed in him and signed on to play for him. If he can't get these guys to do what he wants then he is doomed. The young LBs and DBs he recruited really need to pan out.

The defense will rebound this week, I guarantee it. BO and his staff did a piss poor job of mentally preparing for a FCS team. But that's one of the things that comes with coaching experience. Guys flying around thinking they will make plays based on pure athletic prowess instead of sticking to scheme and responsibilities. The won't happen this week. I'm still sticking with Mizzou being a huge surprise in the East.

What you just said there is the reason that Bama's 4 and 5* players play better than the Vols, LSU, Florida, and Georgia's 4 and 5* players.

( Guys not flying around at Bama thinking they will make plays based on pure athletic prowess instead they stick to scheme and responsibilities)

I have no problem with HCBO playing the freshman and RS freshman. He is doing this for recruiting purposes. But it showed that experience is needed just as much as athleticism is. The youngsters were not in the right place, could not tackle, did not read the "reads" properly.

Young guys weren't the only ones making mistakes.
Hines, Beisel and Hilton were in on most of the big plays. They also all made the wrong reads on those plays.

Let's hope the bad plays in the 1st half were just a hiccup on the defense's part. Some of the missed tackles were almost comical. The coaches can fix that.

If SC hangs 50 on us then we have problems.
