Last weekend our team lost its 9th consecutive SEC Series. To make it worse it was to Ole Miss, a team that has surpassed State under Vann along with teams like South Carolina and Arkansas. To make it worse we had our worst loss in school history with 21-0 friday loss.

We haven't finished higher than 10th since Vann's first season and we are in sole position of 12th place rn THREE games behind 11th. 13th is Texas A&M and they are behind by 1 game and we do not play them this season. Top 12 teams make the SEC Tournament and Vanderbilt does not field a team.

I see 0 chance MSU makes the NCAAs without a SEC series win. Their RPI has already dipped to the 30's and they do not have a quality nc win. Best case scenario is they somehow win 3 more and get to 7-17 in conference play which yes would tie for the 2nd worst SEC Record under Vann.

I understand the SEC is great and all. But I also understand that the SEC is going forward and we are being left behind.

There are two regular season series left. the last one is at Gainesville vs FL and we probably wont win a game there which leaves Missouri who is somewhat comparable but slightly better than State in Starkville. If State loses the series this weekend that will probably be all she wrote on the Vann train unless we just do not care about softball in the slightest. THis is her 8th season and this is what we have done:

SEC Finish,SEC Tournament Record,NCAA Tournament Record
2012: 8th, 0-1, 0-2
2013: 11th, 0-0, 1-2
2014: 10th, 0-1, 1-2
2015: 10th, 0-1, 1-2
2016: 12th(we won 3 conference games how did we even make the SECT?), 0-1, 0-0
2017: 12th, 0-1, 0-2
2018: 11th, 1-1(oh look an SEC TOurnament win, one every 7 years is great*), 2-2
2019(as of 4/22): 12th, tbc
total: 11th(AVG), 1-6, 5-12(never gotten past the regional, won more than 1 game for the first time in 2018)

Updated to add- Vann has been fired today

Updated to add former Associate Head Coach Samantha Ricketts is now Head Coach

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

We waste so much money on the money on the non revenue sports of baseball and women's basketball. Might as well waste some on softball as well

frick it, I'll back you on this one Winner. Great post. I care about softball only because my girls watch it when it's on SEC network whoever is playing. So yeah, might as well be good at it since we don't have beach volleyball, gymnastics, or swimming like some other SEC schools.

We have one outstanding hitter and other than that, we need find some girls that can compete. It boggles my mind though that A&M is bad as they are because Texas is a hotbed of fastpitch. A&M is a young team though.

Needless to say, it's time to figure it out. Bring in somebody willing to fix the issue. I think if the program will start winning, State fans will notice. That's the only way we can get the girls to come to play. Fan support.

Is softball a big sport in MS? Meaning are we just losing the SEC players to other schools?

I agree just like women's basketball, people started noticing when we win. Just like a lot of schools in the SEC like Alabama or LSU have gotten into Gymnastics and Softball.

I'm surprised about Texas A&M too but California is the big softball State and for whatever reason the teams in the PAC 12 have been taken over by the SEC. We've really become a dominant softball league. But as I've said other teams have surpassed us which infuriates me because in year 8, we should be much further along.

I agree we need some new life. New perspectives. For instance this isn't the barometer but look at a program like Ole Miss. We were much better than them when Vann got here. During her tenure, they have surpassed us and have won the SEC Tournament and made a super Regional. Our program has only won 1 SEC Tournament Game under Vann and we've never made a Super Regional in our programs history

Mia Davidsons really good hitting but you have to have 1 maybe even 2 dominant pitchers in the SEC to win and MSU is missing that this year.

I'm looking at some candidates rn. I know in softball it's SEC/PAC 12 Assistant or other head coach. We could probably take a Big Ten or a few Big 12/ACC schools that don't value softball like we did with Lemonis for Baseball.

How do y'all feel about this guy? LINK

Definitely 2 pitchers to mix it up.

Impressive resume. Or this one? We couldn't take a look at a Alabama-Hunstville coach? .752 win pct. over 22 years. That's impressive.

Softball is just not interesting in the least to me. I can enjoy watching a good women’s basketball team

That is impressive! Only thing is it looks like she's related to Vann Stuedeman so that would probably be too awkward to hire her after getting rid of Vann.

I guess but since everyone's all into baseball, it's just kinda odd to me that this is the reaction to softball.

If we get the right person here we'll win and that will get everyone into it.

For me personally I like softball better than WBB but I enjoy State being good at WBB

You made some interesting points here. I do think Vann is a good coach. We have had decent success under her but we have not been able (as you noted) to break through to a higher level (upper half of the SEC, win the Tournament, make a SR etc.). With a few exceptions we are competitive almost every series but we seem to lose a lot of close games. I happened to watch our game at UK where we had a 8-3 lead but ended up losing 9-8. A good team just does not blow a 5 run lead.

I am never one to arbitrarily change coaches so I have mixed feelings here. Continuity w/the HC is a good thing but at the same time we may need a fresh start here.

Understanding that we have had 4 different baseball coaches the last 4 years and have maintained great success but IMO that is an anomaly. Hopefully with Lemonis we will have stability there now. We have been very fortunate in baseball that our program did not fall apart last year. Great credit to Coach Henderson for that.

Watched the game last night. We had a 6-1 lead with 2 outs and then Vann kept our pitcher in who had thrown over 140 pitches to where we had a bases loaded situation and we walked in 2 straight runs. Luckily a lightning delay saved us and we only walked in another run to win 6-4 but man we almost blew another one unreal.

With that being said we are 4-0 in softball since starting this thread. If we can somehow win another game at Florida this will certainly be the most significant thing Vann has done at MSU and I'll be happy to see us going hot into the SEC Tournament.

Series win in Gainesville wow. We make that 3rd out hard but that's still an incredible accomplishment.

I'm really glad of how this program/team has responded. This isn't the same team we've been watching.

SEC really does eat their own. Things can be cyclical but also hard to dominate in multiple sports. I would like to see softball better but right now women basketball is the focus of success.
