It is apparent he lost his fire after beating Auburn in 2014. He was never the same. It's almost like losing to Alabama made him realize he would never win the West. I do not want a coach who is good with finishing 4th. I want someone who's ready to win the West. Moorhead has a chance this year. I would rather take him to Tuscaloosa than Mullen. While he is 0-0 against Alabama, Mullen was 0-9 which shows he would never win.

Mullens laziness held MSU back. HE would gameplan for games like ALabama or LSU this year. But follow that up by not gameplanning for Arkansas, Ole Miss, Auburn, or Georgia. And we can talk recruiting all day, but we all know his two month vacation MSU gave him that he was not cutting it there either And obviously assistants like Gonzalez or Hevesy just weren't good recruiters or coaches.

I for one am excited for a new era. One where our team will be ready to win even if they fall short. I like Moorheads track record and like pretty much all of the assistants. While I like the recruiting, I am not as focused on that because Mullen left his best team and I thank him for that. This is a top 5 SEC team next year. And it is unusual to where the ceiling is SEC Title for the first time since 2014. But it will come down to Alabama once again and obviously I will not pick State to win today. But we will see at the time. But I have not been this excited for a MSU Football season ever. It will be a fun ride

Mullen did a great job elevating the expectations here, but it seemed like his own expectations didn’t grow with it. I feel like we treaded water from 2014 on rather than capitalizing on all that positive momentum. In hindsight, it really does look like the program suffered a bit while he was job hunting at the tail ends of these seasons. If Mullen stayed laser focused through those, I feel like MSU football is comfortably at the level of a Mich State/Wisconsin or Briles Baylor right now. Instead, we’re a rung or two below that.

The iron is still pretty hot, though, so JoeMo will have ample opportunity to help us take that next step.

Whatever you think of the man on a personel level he is the most successful coach in school history and your entire post is just sad.

Just stop acting like the jilted lover and just say thanks for the good times and move on to better days.

Dan left the program in exponentially better shape than he found it and is the first coach I can remember that did so.

Both parties needed some new energy and I think we got it. I listened to him on the ride home from the Bama game and it was obvious he was just glad to not get blown out again. I'm ready to see what our new staff can do.

Also, look at the 2019 recruits this staff is pursuing. 4* and 5* mostly and sounds like they are liking what they hear. Does that mean they'll come, that remains to be seen.

It’s pretty crazy to see how fast recruiting strategy changed. In the past, our “targets” list was like the top 20 kids in MS with a handful of 3* LA/AL/GA kids to fill in. We’re casting a much wider net in 2019. It remains to be seen how many of those kids join us, though. This year just so happens to have a ridiculous crop of prospects in state, so I hope we capitalize on that as best we can.

He is the third best coach in school history. Jackie Sherrill could actually win his division. Mullen could not. And Allyn Mckeen was the most successful coach in Bulldog History.

Geoff Collins fricked State in 2014. He knew he was heading out before the Egg Bowl. Had the defense played like it had in literally every game prior, State wins that game and possibly is in the playoffs or heads into the Orange with a lot of momentum

Has the thought ever occurred to you that Mullen was shopping at the time as well and that's why his assistants were leaving so frequently? I think that's a good explaination of him losing 4 of the last 6 regular season finales.

Look man I loved the Kang but lets not pretend that the SEC West in the 90's is the same animal as today and he was .500 all time at MSU. He should have walked out the door 3 years earlier and history would be much kinder to him.

Depends on the metric used I guess but I will concede this one if it will untwist your panties.

Moorhead is using everything to his advantage in recruiting. He has guys on staff that has Mississippi ties along with guys that can recruit in outside of the south.

I hope he wants to stay a while, it will be nice having a coach out recruiting after a good year instead of pitching himself.

If he leaves, it means he did something good. Which probably means SEC Title. So if he does that he can do whatever idc.

The question is are we up for the challenge? Women's Basketball was up for the challenge to beat the best team on the biggest stage. Which means our dam football team can be as well. 2018 is it. Do or die. Mullens wouldn't have been up for the challenge. He choked in big seasons and got owned by Ole Miss. Now Moorhead can get us back to the promised Land on the 20th anniversary of the last coach to do it: Jackie Sherrill. Except this time. We'll be ready for the game. I'm done being kicked around. I'm in it to win it.

On recruiting, we have 5 spots left? Who is expected to sign?

I only see 3 3*s on (free part) 247 left unsigned. I have seen tons of offers for 2019 4* and 5*s. JoeMo and Co appear to be casting wide nets for talent. Hopefully, we can get them in the boat.

I dunno. Mullen was more consistent than Jackie. And Jackie had the benefit of a very weak SEC west division. The 98 team finished the season 8-5. 8-5 today is usually 4th-5th in the west.

Sherrill won the West with an 8-4 record. Mullen won 8+ like 4 times. Different SEC then. Even Mullen's worst year was twice as good as Sherril's worst.

In that 98 year, him beating Bama set up the SEC West Title. Mullens went 0-9 against Alabama. You have to be bad to not be at least 1-8 against anyone.
