I've lobbied for this before. Instead of a up/down vote on your posts, there is an up/down vote on your profile where people can only vote once. If you get to a certain number of negative votes, it's an automatic bye bye.

this would work well sometimes but just result enforcement of group-think in a lot of cases. people are crazy when it comes to sports and unable to differentiate between something they disagree with and something that is offensive for a more legitimate reason.

I LIKE reading an unpopular opinion provided it is respectful and well-reasoned. I would hate for those types of posters to end up being the casualties of a voting system... plus it would encourage people with alts to log on with each of them to down-vote someone they don't like

If I could propose one ironclad rule, it would be that if you posted some variant of "u mad" you would just automatically get a month break. I think that would be an incredible start.

I know that it is literally impossible to start a thread even remotely pertaining to alabama/saban without getting flamed to hell and back.

Maybe it's the same for A&M or other schools. I don't see how it could be worse. Not that I'm complaining.

Maybe not that you read, but it certainly does exist. You cannot say anything about Alabama's academics without TIM busting up in that thread with some ridiculous conspiracy shite.

We get that at the time, we get the AAU thing not meaning anything for academics, we get cultural fit, we get attendance, we get mayonnaise, we get yankees, media markets not being great, jersey wearing fans, meth production, and our "rival" is Arkansas. Plus, our sports have pretty much stunk.

I'd be happy to get some academics stuff and have it isolated to one thing.

Come on, breh.

u mad is way overused, but...

What if someone is mad?

When someone legitimately gets angry over a meaningless internet gripe, there's inherent humor in that. Is everyone supposed to ignore it?

probably true, but the overwhelming number of Saban/Bama threads started by Bama fans amount to acts of trolling other fans or public masturbation so that kinda doesn't help anything.

It is true, but the vast majority of the time it is misused and instead of unbridled discretion it should be removed. You can really lampoon someone who is actually mad by being creative instead of just posting what 99% of the time is just a canned response to someone who isn't actually angry.

Also, the thing that made it funny in the first place is O'Reilly completely no sold it. Without the no sell, it isn't really that funny.

Everyone gets flamed- it's just what happens here. If we had Vanderbilt fans, they'd get flamed too. Whether or not it's that big a deal is what's on trial here. I don't think it is, but that may be because it's been exactly the same for my entire life as a poster. I just take it as internet talk and nothing more

ETA: Apparently Vandy gets flamed too

Due to the overuse of the meme, acknowledgment of the enraged state, rustled jimmies, etc. is going to do nothing to raise the discourse. I suggest addressing the content in those situations and ignoring the emotion.

I agree 100% with that. The people who aren't clever need to realize they're not clever.

I will add that we need fewer people saying "you're wrong" (or a variation of that) and more people explaining why they're wrong. Simply saying "you suck" adds nothing. If people said, "you suck and here are some reasons why:_____", then it would be a lot better

Please...State fans get literally shite on in here.

And OP, I applaud your post but it's like others have said, society is reducing itself to these levels and SECrant is just a reflection of that. But hey it's funny most of the time even when dozens of people are hating on you.

Oh and all this talk about gifs, they are some of the funniest things on this site and one of my favorite things about this site. You can't recreate some of the comedy that goes on in here.

Personally I think TD would be a better place with no memes, gifs, or emoticons

It would certainly be more readable
