We know why, but that was easily the worst O-line performance of the year. Good thing he has some wheels. That poor dude was running for his life.

Again, not bad for a FR QB under pressure with zero run game vs top 14 ranked opponent.

If you don’t like the kid that’s your opinion but to say after his first game the kid sucks and can’t improve is a bit of a stretch

I agree.

I haven't seen anything from him that suggests that Napier shouldn't go in on getting a transfer qb, but I also think that this game didn't show that he can't improve into a decent or good qb.

It was a shite show on all levels.

I hope Napier has some sense and if he doesn't get a "proven" QB as a bridge for next season he just takes his lumps with Rashada because if he puts Miller out there the whole season and we go 7-5 looking like we did this past season Napier might not make it after the 2024 season. People will be more forgiving is he shows he is building for the future at least.

I'd take Rashada/Miller over Mertz.

You take a portal QB like Mertz for depth.

If you're starting him, thats a different issue.

I still think Miller will be starting next year, unless Rashada is all-world as a freshman.

If you take a QB in the Portal. You take one that is a Potential Starter. You don't take a QB just for depth.

Because then your already telling him basically your coming in to be #2 or 3 on the depth chart. Sure will give you a chance to compete for the job but most likely you will not be opening day #1 guy.

Mertz is not looking for that I can tell you if he comes he will pretty much want to be the clear cut #1 guy.

Mertz is at best ( I do mean at best) a less then serviceable backup in the sec I'm not sure he would win the starting job at Vanderbilt.

I'm very much Against bringing in a guy to add QB depth. You go out and get a Potential Starter not a serviceable backup

I'm sorry Gator sports board. I'm sure I'm going to ruffle some feathers. Offering Mertz is waste of a of a Roster spot this guy is not going to much of Anything in Gainesville. Not sure what is going on with McCall maybe he told Napier he is not interested in Florida I don't know but you go and offer him and see if he is interested!!!

I would rather ride it out with Resheda and let the dominoes fall where they may that way Napier can tell us we are building for the future and playing our young guys because I believe they will bring us to the championship level we all expect here at Florida.

I can roll with that be happy. Instead of bringing in a transfer you know has 0 chance of getting us anywhere.

Mertz was a top rated pro passer out of HS.

Has a QB ever lit it up at Wisconsin?

Russell Wilson

Mertz had some early flashes where he looked good but he regressed big time in the last year or so. Maybe he can get it back together with a change of scenery.

Could be bringing him in with another transfer to give us a full QB room going into Spring practice. There will be another exodus into the portal after Spring.

My guess is they just didn't want to pay McCall looking at how inactive we are in the portal so far with these already proven players.

I doubt that. Even a starter at that level isn't coming here unless he has assurances a hired gun isn't going to be picked up in the portal also. He is coming here fully expecting to win the job, since its Miller and the freshman, and be the starter for 2023.

I disagree. There’s still plenty of time for a kid to come in and compete for the job in Spring then leave afterwards for a starting job at a lesser program if they don’t win it.

That would mean unproven QBs though usually. I will be surprised if Mertz isn't the opening game starter since he probably wouldn't want to throw Rashada in there right off the bat. Some people are claiming we took Mertz because Pratt turned us down and decided to stay there.

lol.. His good tape looks alright but some Wisconsin fans say he can fall apart when things aren't going alright but that he didn't have a good O line or many weapons around him either.

Just from watching his good tape I would lean to him having to be better than Miller though.

McCall had a problem getting in UF. Something about his major. Idk. If UF is going to act like Vanderbilt, pretty soon we'll be losing to them..... Nevermind

Rashada is the only commit that hasn’t signed yet.
