Look I’ll take it. I wouldn’t pull for Georgia if they were playing Iraq. But there are major concerns if we’re going to realize our potential.

Just to name a few:
- Georgia’s play calling on offense was actually pretty good, it was the execution killed them today. If they have a QB worthy of a scholarship and receivers not scared to catch a ball, there is a good chance that we have a completely different narrative.

- We can’t come out flat and expect to come back against elite teams.

- We can’t afford to let off the gas in the second half. There were a number of plays that could have sent this in a different direction. I get that injuries played a huge factor in the play calling, but we’ve got to identify those backups who are ready to step up.

- I understand the thought process of putting EJ in the mix. It’s another thing DCs have to prep for and another wrinkle in the playbook, but it’s too inconsistent to pull stuff like that. Sometimes it’s a TD (LSU last year, albeit by a great effort from Perine), sometimes it’s a false start due to the change in cadence.

- Kadarius Toney is a plus athlete, not up for debate. However, when both teams have the Jimmies and Joe’s, it comes down to Xs and Os, meaning we can’t get cute on a punt return, play for field position. That’s something expected from a younger player, not a seasoned veteran. Additionally, I’ve noticed a trend with him, he will feast on lesser opponents, but in big time games, he will disappear for quarters at a time. He has grown tremendously, and will no doubt have a role at the next level, but he needs to be more consistent now. He needs to be more decisive with the ball in his hand and then make guys miss. He’s currently trying to make guys miss while making a decision, and tonight it showed.

- Circling back to point number 1, there were a number of missed opportunities for Georgia tonight. The upper echelon will capitalize on this. Quite frankly, our secondary reverted to the norm this season instead of what we saw last week. Coincidentally, look who was back in the starting line up. Grantham’s gonna have to break some hearts if we want a deep run this year, cause we were out of position and caught breaks all night that we simply won’t catch against better teams. Magic doesn’t win games, at least not consistently.

Positives:
- Kyle Fn Trask!

- Kyle Fn Pitts! Hope to see him back in action ASAP.

- Pass Pro was solid.

- None of our guys flinched when we went down early.

- RB stable is deep and versatile. They will continue to be difference makers and mismatch problems against slower LBs. We schemed them into the game plan very well tonight. I think they ran wheel routes on damn near every play.

- Play calling by Johnson continues to be effective for the most part, and exciting.

- Evan McPherson is a legitimate weapon. Despite the 1 missed FG, we’ve really hit the lotto when it comes to kickers. To have such an amazing run of specialists is a trend I hope we continue. Sturgis, Piñeiro, McPhereson and Townsend brothers to name a few.

- We beat the mutts, bringing my lifetime record to 22-9!

This is all fair for the most part. I would say in response:

- I'd argue UGA's playcalling was not as good as you say. After White killed us for 75 yards on the opening play, he only had 2 carries the rest of the first half (LOL). And actually on the missed deep balls, Grantham had the defense in the right scheme - our safeties took AWFUL angles.

And note when I say safeties... I'm not talking about our freshman... Our 2 senior safeties are the worst coverage safeties I've ever seen at UF. Period.

Granted, both Stiner and Davis hadn't played since the A&M game, so almost a full month without live game action, but still...

- I posted this in another thread but the 2nd half playcalling was curious, but not having Pitts, having 2 OL go down, and just the general overall flow of the game in the 2nd half was very herky-jerky. Trask was completely out of rhythm.

Having said that, all of this is a mute point if Gamble doesn't "pick" the pass intended for Wright, because Wright houses yet another wheel route, and the score is 48-28.

- The first touchdown was completely on Shawn Davis. He took a HORRIBLE angle, and there was no one left when White passed the LOS.

Coming out flat is a concern on offense, but this is the first game all year where UF went 3 and out on its opening drive. Worthy to mention is the fact that Bama threw a pick on the first play of the game against UGA too. UGA has a good defense. Not really sure the offense was "flat".

- The Toney thing is not really on Toney, but moreso on how Mullen used Toney yesterday. He kept calling Percy Harvin plays, and Toney, for as good as he is, CANNOT run those. Mullen should've been using Toney in the middle of the field, not behind the LOS. When Toney did run routes in the middle of the field (and wasn't mugged by UGA DBs) he got open.

- The Secondary is what it is. Elam is an "elite" corner though. Notice UGA barely tried his side of the field. The secondary is gonna be what holds this team back potentially, but just think of how good the secondary will be next year with all the young guys seeing playing time.

Toney I'm not worried about.

It was a nasty ground from the heavy rain and he had a bad leg going in. He couldn't cut crisply. Dan probably should have realized that sooner but is what it is. If it's in the gameplan, Mullen will use it. He trust his game plan and sometimes it is to a fault. Most of the times though..it is effective. The wheel route he saw on tape and my God was he brilliant in exploiting it and making sure the path was clear for the RBs after they caught it.

I will just leave this little statistic here. The last 4 cocktail parties.

2017 - UGa 42 UF 7 (UF -35)
2018 - UGa 36 UF 17 (UF -19)
2019 - UGa 24 UF 17 (UF -7)
2020 - UGa 28 UF 44 (UF +16)

we were very fortunate for georgia's QB woes. they could have easily come back or tied it up in the 4th if they had connected on some of the deep throws they had. the secondary was beat on every one of them. if we play bama, it will be bombs over atlanta all game. we'll also be lucky to not play against waddle as well.

Well we gave them the deep balls and said let them hit them. We covered the first and second levels exceptionally well. That is by design. We knew they couldn't hit the deep ball and let that be the weakest area. Now. Does not mean Davis did not royally screw up multiple times, but it was the least protected part of the field for a reason. We took away the short and intermediate passes effectively, which is exactly what we needed to do.
