Mertz was 31-44 for 333 yards and a TD, but yeah, he was the problem. Rushing had 21 attempts with 13 yards rushing. How TF is anyone saying this is on Mertz?

Again, what game did you watch? 333 yards passing, 31-41. Blame somebody else. Plenty of blame to go around.

Mertz ain't the problem. He's not great by any stretch, but he ain't the problem. This coaching staff is abysmal on game day. Those formations, those play calls. That O line, the penalties, the defense in the 1st half. This is a clusterfrick

Also can they lose the stupid formation we do on kick offs where they line up with their hands on their collars all synchronized.

My takeaways from this game:

1. Mertz keeps us in the game. He was 31-44 (70% completion rate) for 333 yds. The only thing he really did bad was take sacks instead of throwing balls away.

2. We look slow. We look small. The big guys we do have aren’t fast-twitch and are what I refer to as bad-body-guys. Don’t look athletic.

3. Rob Sale is a moron.

4. We lack attention to detail. There is no excuse ever, for any reason, to have two players on the field with the same number.

5. Kicking game, which was once the best in the country, seems to have fallen off a cliff.

6. 13 yards rushing….13. Etienne only had 7 touches all night. See #3.

7. Penalties. Poorly timed ones at that. False starts in the red zone are inexcusable.

8. We look slow. The up-tempo needs to be a staple if we’re going to keep this season from going off the rails. Down 2 scores and we were dragging arse.

9. Defense is not improved at any area. We got some stops, but at least two drives were them stopping themselves. Gone are the days of our LB’s flying all over the field and the defense attacking the ball.

10. I don’t think anyone expected us to win. We were hopeful we’d at least be competitive and look competent like last year. That didn’t happen, but there’s nothing stopping this team from pulling their heads out of their asses and seeing the light of day. As much as we messed up tonight, it’s a totally different game if we eliminate the penalties alone.

Lol. Mertz was terrible and why we will go 6-6. If we got the QB KY got in the portal we could go 8-4:/9-3 but with Mertz our limit is 6-6.

Good summary! Let’s get a win next week and turn it around against TN.

Give it a rest. No one else is blaming Mertz, what game were you watching?
He played better than Richardson did in 1/2 the games last year.

Lol Mertz is trash at QB and we aren't beating any good team with him at QB.

I agree I Don't think Mertz cost us this game. I think all the Mental Mistakes and the formation changes cost us not just penalties but penalties in the worst possible time. On third and one and forth and two.

The fielding the punt inside the 3 yard line. The O-line is horrible. And will cost us alot of games.
Now can everything get better of course it can. Will it get better I honestly hope it does but right now I'm not sure.

This defense was not built for a no huddle offense Tenner will give Florida the worst beating they have had at the swamp in a very long time.

Like I said I Don't think Mertz cost us the game. Nor do I think he will win us games like that as well.

Plus Rob Sale needs to go as OC. No one will want to come play in that mess plus the 2 minute drill is more like a 5:30 drill

the Mental Mistakes

Aren’t you supposed to have a few more players on the line during FG attempts? Was Billy counting the refs too? Maybe we were avoiding too many players with the same # ?

Too many mistakes, Napier, OL, and ST were awful last night. Napier needs to relinquish play calling duties after this year and let someone else that can think ahead call the plays. ST is still an issue after last year, inexcusable. We don’t need two OL coaches clearly, get rid of one and hire a respected OC.

Awful job by Napier and staff last night. Way too many mistakes and discipline.

Mertz made plays even with some bad misses.

Special teams were shite.

Just a bad night but very disappointing performance.

Early in the game I thought some of the calls were OK but 4Q was some of the worst Play calls I've ever seen. Horrible clock management at end as well

It reminds me of some of the Muschamp offenses. Disjointed, static, vanilla. With the OL failing and impending all out blitzes, we kept doing the stupid pump fake and attempting long pass plays. Audible dude.

I’m not going off the deep end yet, disappointed that we made the same mistakes that cost us games last year. Special teams needs more attention, focus on details needs to improve, playcalling is still suspect. Positives, QB play was better than expected, some playmakers showing up, too many mistakes took away any chance to win. We lost to a top 15 team on the road in the season opener. Don’t panic, yet !!!
