We may never know the real reasons behind his transfer. Some say not wanting to compete and others say NIL.

Regardless, we don't have a strong QB room. I hope we do bring in a transfer for next season. Philo isn't the guy.

I think Philo can work in this system.but we will see I guess. Watching the replay the main thing Mizzu didn't do that Auburn and Ole Miss did was the LBs reaction to the shifts etc. Mizzu made a point for the LBs to play things safer (maybe they always do I dont know) and that combined with our O line getting handled plus TEs missing blocks resulted in that train wreck. Probably the biggest joke was Mizzu getting quick pressure using just 3 linemen on many plays.

Napier left a lack of depth at most positions, will take a few years to fix us. Last game was def embarassing, but after the Ole Miss game, it is a reminder we have far to go. If you can shut down the run, we have no answer at all. I was expecting sonething like a 7-6 season...so we are going to ups and downs this year for sure. I am emotiomal during Gator games, was very clear how much I fricking hated Napier. Our new coach, like alot.
So can be patient hoping it will be fixrd in a few years and reminding myself Napier left a huge mess for him to fix..

Lag had who at OC? You have to be very new ro Football if you do not get why he could not read a field.

Our new QB has very little arm talent, can't run, and also is not great at reading a field. He is basically an injured Lag.

Big diff between Lag support and having very basic sense. If you think Mertz is even close to DJ overall, you are lacking it greatly. He was able to run and has much better arm str(it is not even close). Mizzou showed how bad our offense is if you shut down the run because we have a very bad passing game. Mertz seems like a good person, do not hate guy at all...but that does not mean I have to be blind to how bad our passing offense is.

I said in a group I’m in we probably need to recruit over Philo. If we have to beat a team throwing 60% of the time, I don’t think it’s going to happen right now.

The biggest things with Napier were (1) the scheme was terrible and (2) bad games snowballed into worse and worse results. We got lucky in his 8-4 year, but for most of his tenure, good momentum couldn't sustain and bad momentum compounded.

Sumrall seems like a much more motivational coach who should be able to utilize a bad game as a growth opportunity.

Not to beat a dead horse or to make excuses. Lagway had talent. He was injured most of his time at UF. I believe he was lazy to some extent and not the leader or competitor a QB needs to be. And the biggest reason for his failure at UF was that he was poorly coached!

I don't believe any of us thought Philo was a QB that could just go out on his own and win football games. He is a game manager, knows the system, usually gets us into the right formation and play then typically gets the ball to the right player. There is not a better QB at this point on the team, after all is said and done, Jones and Griffin may have higher ceilings but Philo is the best we have right now. If he wasn't, I am certain that he wouldn't be playing.

Yea Lag was decently lazy. I wish I could be a multi-millionaire being lazy lol....screw 9-6..make my hours at work 11-3 now damnit. Also tell my bosses I need an hour long lunch break from 12-1.

In this transfer portal era, we can definitely build depth in a year than 2. We'll see how this recruiting class ends up in January.

That's my point. Lag had no coaching at all. After that Miami game in 2024, we all wanted Lag to play. Mertz was straight arse in that game but fans seem to forget that and hold on to 2023 as if we did anything that year. I hate Mertz and Philo because they're the types that limit our potential on offense. Defenses will figure them out eventually.

Is it really asking a lot for a guy who can make every throw without having a discussion on his arm strength? I just hate that narrative a lot.

Some games like this past weekend will require it. Let's see how Sumrall addresses it in December.

Um...if you think not wanting our insanely bad passing game to be as bad as it is..um, okay....

Napier was the OC and HC for Lag so with Napier coaching you were screwed.. Lag had top tier physical skills, but was insanely bad at reading the field. Not sure how that makes me a supporter of him. Just using very basic sense. Mertz is a great guy, but a terrible QB.

I would argue that both of these guys have as good of arm strength as Danny did. So many factors are more important than arm strength.

We really got to move on from Danny, Shane, Rex. The football played back then is a lot different to what it is today.

You're right. I see a QB with no pre-snap awareness. Just running the plays as told with no adjustments to protections or seeing how they are defending our WRs. A QB who has no pocket awareness. Does not have the ability to move around in the pocket. Does not step up to make the throws and rather stands there and just throws the first read instead of looking at multiple reads. Has no scrambling ability besides a few bootleg calls. Panics when the pressure is coming and can't run with the football. Can't make the anticipation throws to expect your guy to be there to make the catch.

He's exposed and limited. Schedule gets tougher and coaches are figuring him out quickly. This cannot be a Graham Mertz situation with average stats and we ride him into next season.

We agree, so many things are more important than arm strength. I am not prepared to give up on Philo yet, partially because he is probably our best option.
