Slayer, the OL will be good this year....our QB will have benefitted from not having to practice as much with scrubs. Emory isnt dumb....he knows that being an accurate passer is mandatory for the team to succeed.

Look at our roster on defense and the young players who either redshirted or were thrown into the fray because of depth issues. The only thing Im worried about is depth on the DL. Dexter is an All SEC type in 2022. Secondary has depth galore and coaches can pick and choose now, LB is solid with a lot of r/s frosh mixed in with upperclassmen. The year holds promise and so much color that I have to wear my Costa del Mars

I doubt it'll be good, but with a true rushing threat at QB it won't need to be.

You can play call around the line as long as there is a downfield threat -- if Emory even just has like one or two good passes that he can hit the money on (think like an out, back shoulder throw, slant, or even just an RB wheel route) consistently, it'll open up a lot of lanes for him to run through.

However, I don't expect the traditional run game to improve much at all, I'd need to see it to believe it. I also need to see Emory throw a lot more, because he isn't that good of a passer quite yet, not even close.

But, opposing defenses won't do what they pretty much tried to do with Trask -- like in the Virginia game when they would literally just let their DE's bubble the dump off pass. If teams do that against Emory he will run 7 yards every single time.

TL;DR:

Emory will take a lot of pressure off of the OL, so they may have better numbers but I doubt they'll really improve.

Is it a given that he’s the starter? AR looked better in the limited action I saw.

We're talking about Mullen, the guy who started a guy over Dak Prescott (and Dak only got in because of a concussion) and Feleipe Franks over Kyle Trask.

Pretty safe to say that he will always go with experience over a guy being that much better.

To me, AR is the guy we should be getting experience and building for the future. Carlos Del Rio is also more of the build we're looking for, but it's probably too early for those two take over everything without anyone coming in behind them.

Tl;DR:

It's Mullen, Emory is starting.

The defense will surprise folks...I honestly believe that. We will see improvement over 2020. Except for DL, we have more depth on defense than in any of the past 3 years. I think Dexter will be ready to start and we have enough DL to roll subs in...as long as the dreaded injury bug doesnt bite us.

I would honestly be surprised if the defense managed to be as bad as they were last year, even with the circumstances. That was the worst they've been in 60 years.

Defense won’t be as bad as last year but they won’t be good. This is the least impressive front 7 I have seen in recent memory and the secondary has been a shite show for a while especially at safety and we are relying on a lot of young players. Half the lb Corp seem like tweeners that and we always seem to be out of position or pushed around.

On offense, we have slaw on the ol, a mediocre run game, and a qb that hasn’t proven he can throw. And even if he can throw his pass catching options aren’t nearly as good as last year.

This has all the makings to be a tough year imo.

I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by the option game, which is where we'll have a ton of breakout plays.

I said the same thing with Trask:

Emory Jones will have the offense all to himself this off-season and the offense is built around him, by a guy who practically helped construct this type of offense.

The question will be if we can get any other aspect to work at a high level, because I know Emory can peel off for huge runs. Even Trask got a few last year despite his low mobility (on designed runs, even).

Defense, I honestly have no idea what we'll look like. All I can say is that our best players last year in the secondary and even at LB seemed to be younger, and hungrier guys. McElwain holdovers really didn't pan out too well.

Young defense will be helped tremendously by our run game. I feel certain that they're gonna play TOP and smashmouth ball against the top half of the schedule.

Center is the only OL piece I'm worried about. OGs have had their growing pains as young players, but White and Braun are far and away the strongest, meanest Guards we've seen in O&B since the Meyer years. Tackles - we know what we're getting. Tarquin winning RT out of camp would be tremendous.

OL will be better...naybe not elite...but with Emory, Danien Pierce, Nay Quay Wright, Malik Davis, DeMarkus Bowman and Lorenzo Lingard it doesnt have to be.

Im wondering if Davis should move to WR to get more snaps and add Jacob Copeland, Justin Shorter, Xzavier Henderson we can throw the ball.

Reese had better be better than in 2020, he had his lunch money taken too many times.

I'm in total agreement with you Reel.

I think not only Davis should move to receiver but Wright as well. They need to have ways to get all these guys on the field and in my opinion this is the best way.

And on the defense side way too many guys on that side of the ball had not just there lunch money taken but all there money taken. I have no trust in Grantham to right this ship. I hope I'm wrong but I have 0 faith in Grantham and have no faith Mullen will let him go if it isn't much better.

Albino you have to look at the secondary and lack of depth for our total collapse on defense and then look at the snaps on the DL...we had Slaton & Campbell miss some time...then we had the injury bug hit Jeremiah Moon and Zach Carter to lesser degree. LB depth was non existant. 2021 brings a lot more depth to the whole defense....a lot of frosh redshirted and have been on the practice field a lot...and true sophs who weren't really ready in 2020. We recruited the hell out of secondary players and a great example is Jason Marshall, a top 2 or 3 CB in the country. Safety Corey Collier and Jordan Young are more DBs who wont sit long.

Add in Diwun Black, the top rated JUCO LBer plus Shelton, Watson and Newkirk with Ventrell Miller, Derek Wingo, Brenton Cox, Moon, Khris Bogle, Z Carter, Gervon Dexter and r/s frosh Lamar Goods....I think we have a solid unit. Add Elam & Trey Dean and whats not to like ?

It'll be a young unit, but there is way more athleticism than previous years. The good news is that they will be maturing, pretty much, right when AR takes over next year. That's a really good sign.

Bowman & Lingard will also be our backs.

Future is looking really bright after this year, but I'm hoping they can get it together to make this year great as well.

I forgot to mention Diabate as well, so the defense is loaded with talent and speed....no reason to expect 2020 type results imo.

2022 is being talked about as the magic year....but I think we have the talent now on the roster to stay on course for a very good year. These O&B glasses cant see anything else.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammo....if he his physical stats are correct he will may play enough to keep his redshirt status on special teams....but he is a solid 4 * guy.

Oh and Wright will not move to WR, he is way too short and stocky....whereas Davis is leaner and a few inches taller. Wright is a 75 TD waiting to happen...dude can break tackles and is a stellar run machine.
