Robbie Liles has left the program after 17 years.

Robbie is a great guy but he's seen the writing on the wall since he was promoted ... and it's been hell on him. I mean the guy was under so much pressure from mUSChamp I'm surprised he last as long as he did honestly.

They're saying he left of his own accord but the truth is he was forced-out.

Boom is a bitch to work for. I couldn't do it ... but I'm glad he is that demanding.

George Wynn, who I'm told has a long time relationship with Boom, has known him since his player days at UGA and worked with him at both Texas and UF, will be named the new Director of Football Ops.

It's a key position and a ton of responsibility. mUSChamp is very demanding and he's always wanted one of his guys in the slot.

This should be one of the final pieces of the puzzle mUSChamp was looking to fill.

If anyone is interested in what the DoFops does let me know. It's an extremely important position in a well-run operation.

I like Robbie, too. Just talked to him a few weeks ago. He just had his second kid, so imagine the work life balance was becoming tough.

He's already in Charleston. He's gonna be fine though ... he saw it coming well in advance.

Okay so ... it's one of those positions that few know about but it's become huge, over the past 15 years, for most programs.

The Director of Football Operations' job is to first of all follow the directions of the coach to the letter of his law. Jaime Speronis had it easy under Spurrier because Spurrier basically just used Jaime to block access ... and Jaime was a prick who sat around and drew a big paycheck without doing a whole lot.

Boom demands a bunch more.

Dir of Football Ops, the good ones like the ones that work for Saban, and others, they are the busiest people in the program.

They oversee all recruiting operations in terms of visits and planning special tours, events, dinners, etc., when recruits and their families arrive. They have a team of people underneath them, Like Jessica Jackson, who they delegate-to and then follow-up with to make sure those visits go well.

They plan and oversee all banquets and award ceremonies.

They allow and approve all sideline passes. That includes requests from VIPs and boosters.

They troubleshoot ... one of their biggest responsibilities. If something unexpected happens, the first call is to the DoFops. He then decides the next step to take and whether or not Muschamp gets a late night call or if it is handled and Muschamp is updated on the way in to work the next morning by phone.

He's always the first one in the office and the last one to leave.

The DoFop is responsible for logistics. He double-checks and triple checks everything with the equipment manager. He does the same with the audio-video department ... and he'd better make sure all the mics work.

He coordinates transportation. Buses to the airport, buses for short trips like Athens ... arranges flights, hotels, transportation to-and-fro, accommodations, meals on the road.

He deals with CBS, ESPN, etc.

Wanna talk to mUSChamp? Typically you start with Steve Fink but not always. A lot of times certain people, big boosters, equipment reps, manufacturer's reps, etc., will call Boom's office. That call will go to the main desk. If you get past there you're directed to mUSChamp's secretary. She's usually going to refer you to the DoFop. From there he'll decide if you get to talk to mUSChamp and it almost always means you will not ... you'll make your case to the DoFop by phone and he'll decide if you get a face-to-face. If you make it that far mUSChamp might walk into the room unannounced or he may not. If he does further instructions are probably on the way.

Need mUSChamp to speak at your event? Good luck. First you gotta go through DoFops.

Need an autographed football? Good luck. Be ready to pony-up some greenback.

DoFops coordinates off-season workouts with S&C and then compiles the dailys that go on mUSChamp's desk.

Surprise visitor, a recruit and his family stops by unannounced? DoFop scrambles the team and stalls with tours and videos until mUSChamp and the proper coach can arrive. And it happens.

Football Camps, one of the DoFop's biggest responsibilities is to make sure it goes smoothly and everyone is in attendance.

Nutrition and Training ... DoFop reports to Boom on how rehabs are going as well as how players are responding to diets and whether or not they are following the guidelines given to them in terms of their diets.

Academics ... a big one. DoFop stays on top of grades, class attendance, GPRs, arranges tutors, works directly with The Dodie ... it's a big deal with daily reports to mUSChamp demands. You do not wanna screw this one up. DoFop also deals with professors that might call. It happens quite a bit ... professors want direct contact with mUSChamp, and sometimes they get it to stroke their egos ... but usually they have to deal with the DoFop first.

Campus and City Police ... DoFop.

Parents who think their son deserves more playing time? DoFop first, then position coach then, maybe, mUSChamp.

Want to donan interview with mUSChamp? Steve Fink ... then he calls the DoFop and Muschamp and he decide when and where and how.

Under Armour? DoFop sets up a meeting with the Equipment Manager then they take it to Boom.

Dealer loaners ... you know those free cars the coaches drive? All arranged by DoFop through the marketing department.

Coaches' Show ... Liz McMillan and the DoFop. All Todd and Boom do is rush in, get in front of the camera and talk. It happens fast and is in-and-out.

There are basically four people who have a direct line to Boom. The DoFop, Pastides, Tanner and Muschamp's secretary and even she rarely calls him directly unless he is sitting in his office. Wadell can call mUSChamp, but he rarely does unless he is returning a call.

Compliance, student aid, finance .... they talk to the DoFop and it gets relayed to Boom unless they are returning a call to Boom that he initiated.

There are a couple of other things that the DoFop coordinates threw certain people that I cannot mention here ... but suffice it to say his finger is on everything.

That honestly sounds absolutely awful. I’d rather negotiate $1M sales or deal with an irate CFO than make sure all the right people are at a dinner and the reservations don’t get screwed up. I’ve seen people lose big clients because the driver didn’t show up on time to get them to a function.
