This, when I left Charleston for Myrtle Beach 12 years ago. I know, I know, no one does that. But I can assure you it paid off incredibly. People were offering me chicken bog and I looked at them silly. Then I got a plate and realize it was Perlo they were talking about. Literally if you cross the bridge into G town it changes name.
Side note, theres a big old Geechie fella in G town that cooks out of a barrel on a trailer in the liquor store parking lot. You ever see him, you pull your arse in there, that son of a bitch can cook bog/perlo, crabs, chicken and sausage. Its all edible crack

The only thing that goes over rice in South Carolina, when it comes to barbque is hash or Brunswick stew.
You serious Clark?
No lima beans, field peas, vegetable soup, jambalaya, or orka and tomatoes?

I prefer vinegar over the others myself.
I like mustard based sauce but there isn't one I'm crazy about because they all taste the same to me. Feel free to make a recommendation on one and I'll give it a shot.
I always like vinegar & red pepper sauce, but this bottle right here put vinegar over the top for me:

Shealys doesn't even rank in the top 3 of the midlands with their barbeque. Mustard base rules.

Let me guess... you are a Little Pigs apologist?

Honestly I'm not that big of fan of little pigs . I like True Bbq in west columbia and Doko Smoke in Blythewood. On July 4th and Labor day I alway load up at the Ridge Riders BBQ in Ridgeway. They only sale on those 2 days and its the best pulled pork you will ever put in your mouth. I'm always suprised by how many out of state people come to Ridgeway just for that Que ( the sauce is a combination of mustard and vinegar).

I can't stand little pigs.
Doko Smoke is great and I've heard good things about True BBQ. Never heard about Ridge Riders though, so I'll take your word for it.
I would also be surprised about the number of travelers in Ridgeway to check out the BBQ, but then again maybe Pig on the Ridge has gone a long way in building the town's reputation for good BBQ.

I'm a Vinegar and Pepper guy, always have been. I like the homemade sauces and get it from friends who make it from scratch.

There's a place called Big Boys Smokehouse on Farrow Road that is excellent.

I've heard about it but probably need a bullet proof vest to stand in line in case there is a drive by.

BBQ wise it’s either hash or Lima beans. Outside of that, it’s free reign.

Scott's BBQ in Hemingway has been our go to for over 20 years now. Not sure who's gonna run things now that Mr. Rosie passed away (Rodney's Dad) earlier this year.
My Family get the whole hog every Christmas. I know a few folks in the area that can really Q though.

One of my friends raves about McCabe's barbeque in Manning. Anybody ever tried it?
Posted on 3/10/21 at 9:17 pm to SOSFAN
It's good. It's pepper vinegar style like the rest of the Pee Dee. My mom is from Clarendon County so I'm familiar with the BBQ places along that Hwy 261 corridor. It's not quite as good as Scott's but still worth stopping by if you're around Manning, Alcolu or Summerton.

The only kind of BBQ sauce I don't like is that stuff from gawga.

The pig isn't much better. They only cook butts. I call it lazy BBQ.
SC takes it to another level with whole hog. Theres something about mixing all the cuts together that adds favor and texture.

True, to get some decent BBQ in GA you have to know some folks in the country who can Q.
Most of the Q in Metro Atlanta is dumbed down, too commercialized. I go to certain spots for a thing that they do well. None of them do everything well.

Will be doing Shealys buffet tomorrow. Love their hash and green beans.
