Nothing confirmed but looks legit

How we feeling?

I'm not a fan, but I can at least squint my eyes and see the upside. And I will definitely take him over Monte Lee.

But I have some major concerns

oh and fire ray tanner

It all depends on the staff he hires. Zero experience with the portal nor NIL. With the right staff this could be a great hire but if not we will be hunting for a coach in a few years.

Edit Looks like he is bringing Terry Rooney as pitching coach and Monte is staying on staff. If true this is a helluva staff

Ugh.

So Ray hired someone who was good back in the day when Ray was a coach. That’s like Biden hiring Henry Kissinger to be his Secretary of State.

But who knows? The man knows baseball so maybe the boneheaded decisions will be a thing of the past. And if the staff can recruit….

Still feels like a move you make when your program sucks and you just went 1-10. Not the move you make when you’re a blue blood.

so let it be known -

the orangenecks are already mocking USC for hiring a 66 year old retired baseball coach who is in fact a CWS Champion - meanwhile ignoring they re-installed a 70 year old once fired from their shite job washed up a-hole yank with zero Omaha rings and his hand picked mini-me - and just showed their asses getting tossed out of a game - while flaming out 0-2 of a home Super - to a team Mark Kingston took a series from in Gainesville this season -

as for the hire itself - first reaction was "we're dead and Ray did this for his own legacy" to claim he hired a national champion coach while being USC AD - regardless if it would work or fit - especially recruiting SC kids -

if Rooney is coming that's a big big help - as much as the love/hate with Lee exists among our fans - I doubt PM will find anyone available before July to come in and recruit or have the connections Monte does within our state and the Carolinas/Georgia -

Maineri is a bulletproof hire for Tanner based on resume alone and I hope that's not the main reason he chose him - the need is that Maineri has the fire & will to give our job what it's gonna take to get back to where Gamecock baseball had lived for the better part of the last 50 seasons -

I frankly don't give a frick what a bunch of inbred sheep humpers think. The last time we hired a older guy, that was a former national champion, he ended up with the longest winning streak against Clempson that Carolina ever had in football.

Not feeling this hire. Tanner has proven time and time again he can’t run even a below average AD. The University President needs to step in and remedy this. And for once stop listening to the dumbass Midlands fans. They cheerlead every stupid arse decision.

He could be a stabilizing force for a program that’s lost its way.

It’s also a name we’re all familiar with.

If it was between Lee and Mainieri, the choice was obvious.

Also wouldn’t shock me if Mainieri is just some kind of figurehead coach with Lee doing most of the day to day

yeahhhh I am going to disagree here....

Assuming the rumored staff comes in, he nailed this hire. Not only that he nailed the softball hire. This was good work.

I've bitched about Tanner quite a bit but he made 3 solid hires in one day. If the rumors on the staff are true this is a good hire. Our team defense was extremely undisciplined and PM will end that.

I still don't know how to feel about this hire. Could someone please tell me how I should feel?

I think really good about it. The 2 staff members we brought in that werent already here are very good. Hendry was at UVA and was a reason that they have been as successful as they have been. Rooney has a fantastic track record and a killer recruiter. Pair that with Monte lee and this staff should be pretty solid. It's obviously a situation where you hand it off in 5 years, but in the short term we should win again. We should be far more discipline as well. Defense will be better, and we will play some small ball. Launch angle bullshite be gone.

We have a dynamic coaching staff now!!! Everyone's expectations should be win now. I expect our recruiting to make huge improvements. Tanner far exceeded my expectations this time.

I expect a rock solid defensive team.

Not at all sure about anything else.
