Almost 70..I have no doubts he could turn it around quick but...I also have no doubts he would leave us similar to spurrier. Some great moments, but also in worse shape and going out in some way that hurts both his and our image

I don’t give a shite if he left us as bare as football
If it came with any kind of success I’d take it
We have literally had 0 success in this sport in the last 20 years

Talking to my Gonzaga buddy that is a big west coast basketball guy, he is not high on Miller. Honestly I see why. When you look at his record you see 4 or 5 years better than what Martin ever did at USC. You also see a trailing off towards the end of his career. When you look at Arizona as a program and their yearly records, They are a powerhouse. a blueblood that doesnt get the attention a lot do. Lute Olson never lost more than 9 games and that was his first season. After that never more than 7 games. Miller inherited a really good program and by the end of it he finished 5th in the conference 2x.
point being, Miller may not be all it. Plus we need a guy who is energetic to be here. who will recruit and can bring in assistants that can recruit. I firmly think that Boyton would be passionate about coaching here, and could break through to the AAU coaches. Maybe it sounds woke, but i think he could reach recruits better as a former player playing in the 2000's. I also think being a POC he would have an easier time reaching kids here as well as AAU coaches.
*If we got Miller I wouldnt be upset by any means. He has proven he can win, hopefully he could bring in assistants here and quickly assert himself in this side of the country. I think its hard to come across the country and have the same level of success

I have to respectfully disagree with a couple points of your post, even though I totally understand why, on the surface, some people are hesitant about Miller. I believe he is far and away the best possible option for South Carolina at this time, and it would be downright inexcusable for Ray Tanner to not at least give it a shot and throw everything we can at him.
Not even counting his years at Xavier, Miller has a .735 winning percentage. Martin had a .538 here. For most of the time Miller was at Arizona, the PAC-12 was undeniably the harder conference, and he won it 5 times. I think it speaks volumes about Miller's coaching prowess that he was able to attract a job like Arizona and would still be in that position if not for the NCAA investigation. Arizona fans were distraught that he was getting fired.
Our BOT has shown that they will blow their load for any coach who has even a smidgen of success here, so I believe we could offer enough incentives to hold onto him unless a blueblood program comes calling. He'll have virtually no pressure in his first few years, he'll get paid a shite ton, and will be in the middle of the Carolinas recruiting ground. Even if he can't connect with AAU coaches (which I doubt), I think NIL will change the importance of AAU over time any way.
Look at where Auburn is now with Bruce Pearl. If our fans can't see the wonders Pearl has worked for Auburn and recognize there are a lot similarities in Miller possibly coaching us, then I'll never understand what wavelength some of our fans are operating on.
I don't know if Miller will even consider us as an option, but we have to at least try. Some of the other potential names floated are fine, but no one comes close to Miller. He's a gamechanger and would be a MASSIVE haul that would undoubtedly reinvigorate our program.
Last thing I'll say - we can't look at this hiring like we would with football before Beamer was hired. Right now, our best asset in athletics is Dawn Staley, and we should be seeking to hire a powerhouse coach who we can align with Staley to get our fans excited about basketball as whole.

Thats fair. In your opinion do you not worry about that transition from West Coast recruiting to East Coast Recruiting? I am trying to think of one time a coach has successfully done that. Not saying it isnt possible but I just can't think of an example.
IDK why, but I feel like Ray had to have already gauged some interest from candidates prior to firing Frank right? Lets assume our AD is competent (not saying he is) , but that is what a competent AD would do when firing a coach that some fans are still loyal to, and when firing a coach that did seem to probably have one of his best recruiting classes in place. right?

Sean Miller is not a west coast guy
He’s from Pitt, he played at Pitt, was an assistant at Pitt, NC State and Xavier.
Head coach at Xavier and then spent 12 seasons at Arizona
Mick Cronin seems to be doing fine making the transition from East to West
I don’t think it really matters these days
Especially with NIL and basketball players going all over the place

Fair enough. The stuff I was reading was saying the longer this draws out, the more bleak it is for us. That we were close to landing a deal but others have swooped in

I would rather see a young hungry coach. I would be happy with BJ Mackie.....He would be another Staley IMO....

this is like when people want us to hire Landon Powell from newberry, but maybe worse.
yeah dude is a great former player, but not even close to an established HC. if you want former player, Boyton jr is your best bet.
