Sources: Xavier is targeting Sean Miller to return as the school's next head basketball coach.
The two sides met on Friday.
Miller has also been prioritized by South Carolina to fill its head coaching vacancy.

this is like when people want us to hire Landon Powell from newberry, but maybe worse
Chasing big fish isn't SC's strong suit. We get played on the end by coaches who would rather be somewhere else, and have better agents.
We're better off rolling dice on people who want to be here. McKie or Richey is our ceiling at this point.

I would be happy with BJ Mackie.....He would be another Staley IMO....
lol BJ McKie isn't anywhere near Dawn Staley in terms of status within their respective sports.

We all saw it coming the second they fired their coach

It was funny to see the 247 board get themselves SO excited over the possibility though

quote:Here's the deal with BJ....he's young and aggressive (think Beamer). He is also the one who could have possibly pulled Williamson and Morant and now with GG Jackson on the table he might be the one to pull him in. BJ played high school and college basketball in South Carolina. We need to keep the great ones here and he could be the guy to do it. He would be a great choice for many reasons....but lets go with another Frank. The older guys who have no ties and are just going through the motion by the time we get them.

Not even close
He recruits. Frank couldn’t

He had issues with keeping a clean program. Heck just keep Frank if that's the only option. I despise a cheater....

I think today with NIL will be a lot easier to cheat
We have a lot of resources, no recession we shouldn’t be cheating with the best of them

McKie is risky, for sure. But, he carries the same positives that Shane did in football. If he works out, he's *yours*. If he doesn't, we're in no worse shape than we were before.
I'm open to it, and, honestly, pretty much expecting it. Miller played Tanner like a fiddle. We all saw that coming, too.

First time watching a Ray Tanner hiring process?

I honestly don’t know why the CoC isn’t in consideration.
Seems like the best of both worlds.
A guy with plenty of HC experience..and wins… but he’s a coached at a smaller school so other big schools don’t seem to be eyeing him. He’s also in state.
We risk Gregg Marshall all over again.

I have no idea. I honestly thought Pat Kelsey would be at the top of the list as soon as I heard Martin was fired.

Did he? we offered more money. seems like a case of we gave it a good shot, but he wasnt interested.

Yep. Miller used USC's interest in him to put pressure on Xavier to fire their coach and open up.
He didn't use us for money, he used us to create the vacancy at the job he wanted. He was never serious about coming here. Tanner couldn't read that, and, when put where he was competing against Xavier, he should have pulled the offer and moved on.
